Teenager acting erratically with a knife rolled up on in Chicago. I think they shot him like 17 times including several times while he was on the ground/in the back. Cop is going to be charged with murder.

According to NBC, the restaurant—located at 4060 S Pulaski Rd—boasts a series of outdoor security cameras that ostensibly captured the lead up to the shooting (which may have actually concluded outside the range of the cameras.)
But an inexplicable gap emerged after cops examined the footage. Via NBC:
After the shooting, according to Jay Darshane, the District Manager for Burger King, four to five police officers wearing blue and white shirts entered the restaurant and asked to view the video and were given the password to the equipment. Three hours later they left, he said.
The next day, when an investigator from the Independent Police Review Authority asked to view the security footage, it was discovered that the 86 minutes of video was missing.
Darshane tells NBC the cameras and video recorder were “on and working properly” the night of the shooting.
“We had no idea they were going to sit there and delete files,” Darshane said. “I mean we were just trying to help the police officers.”

    Murder. It's not even close.

The teenager is a credible threat. He's high on PCP, he's carrying a knife, and he has slashed cop car tires. He's refusing a lawful order to stop. But that does not meet the criteria for a good shoot because he's not yet graduated from credible to imminent. It was the officer's duty to continue to follow him and demand that he surrender, even if it results in a standoff or following the kid around for 3 hours. But until he is an imminent threat to ANYBODY'S well-being, the standard had not been met yet to open fire. That's why the PD is charging him and distancing themselves, even after the cover-up was attempted. So many people should go down for this, for the records deleting and entire coverup.

I think we get at least one applicant per hiring process that admits to watching, downloading, or making child porn, not including those who've had to view for legitimate reasons (prior law enforcement, proabtion & parole, etc.), among other crazy stuff.

Comes up usually in the polygraph portion. Had people admit to being serial bank robbers, bestiality, whole range of stuff. When I went through prosecution of child porn training as a prosecutor, it's honestly frightening how common it is.

The polygraph is stopped and they'll be interviewed by a detective. Has to be corroboration from that point on to establish probable cause for an arrest. They're not just free to walk out after they throw that zinger out of course.

But a polygraph isn't credible anyhow so I'm not sure how or why anyone would allow that to determine guilt.

He didn't say it determine guilt. But, if you're giving someone a polygraph and they admit (because they assume you'd know they are lying) to having dealt with child porn what would you do? Would you be like oh cool or attempt investigate?

  24. Dutch

Dutch Make it easy on yourself Dutch

With child porn/molestors, the offenders often feel it is normal to have sexual desires for children, even infants, and act upon them. Society finds them repulsive of course, but many of them want to feel accepted and normal along with their perversion so they end up saying things against their self interest seeking that approval even though it defies common sense.

I feel like some sort of motion indicating surprise would make this story more believable. He just continued along calmly after putting a round in the perp.

idk though, maybe with a lot of trigger time you wouldn't jump, but man even when I play paintball I perform the universal body language for "oops, shit!" when I send off a round by accident, even harmlessly and I bet I've shot 200,000 rounds in the last decade. I know one of my markers had 50k shots on the counter.

Here's the fucked up part of this story - the cop never told anyone he shot the guy until much later. It wasn't until a fellow officer got inside the vehicle, saw the bullet wounds, and then the cop was asked later if he discharged his weapon on the guy. Only then did the cop admit to shooting the guy and the whole story of an 'accidental discharge' came about.

I guess he shot him in a moment of poor judgment and was hoping for.. what? That he would die as a result of his injuries and nobody would notice? O r what? What's the end game?

I thought that exactly - it would be assumed that he was injured in the car accident. It seems like a really awful plan, what with autopsies and cameras and whatnot.

Did I hear on the news today that this guy lived?? He may be a paraplegic, but survived. His wife was ejected from the car and died.

I kinda buy the accidental discharge theory, Just because I see no real motive for him to shoot the guy that quickly.
However, he didn't seem to be shaken up like I'd think one would be after accidentally shooting someone, and not telling anyone he shot him is also fucked up.

This is a really weird one.

aren't cops generally very pissed off when people run from them? some sort of disrespect, combined with endangering innocent people by driving recklessly.

But he doesn't really seem angry either, he's not yelling like crazy. It almost seems fake, or set up. I know it's not, but that cop is just too calm and cool.

Calling that an accidental discharge is comical. At least come up with a better lie. Say he thought the guy had a gun. Something. I guess they want me to think he accidentally un-holstered his gun and pointed it at the guy, too? It's sad that the victim was white so this will get 1/10th of the coverage it would if the victim were black bc the media can't race bait on this one.

    http://www.actionnewsnow.com/news/d...accidental-shooting-no-charges-will-be-filed/

The Paradise police officer who investigators say accidentally shot a suspected DUI driver in the neck last month will not face criminal charges, Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey announced Thursday.

Ramsey said the evidence in this case shows the shooting to be accidental, and possibly negligent, but not criminally so. “This shooting is not justified, but also not criminal."
Paradise Police Officer Patrick Feaster, a five year veteran of the department, was parked on the Skyway around midnight Thanksgiving morning, when he saw a Toyota Four-Runner speeding out of the Canteena Bar parking lot without headlights on.

Feaster followed in his patrol car, as the Toyota ran a red light and turned onto Pearson Road where the driver, 26-year-old Andrew Thomas struck the median and flipped, ejecting his 23-year-old wife Darien Ehorn from the vehicle. Ehorn was killed in the crash.

Ramsey said Feaster drew his gun when Thomas “popped” out of the car, believing he would flee. As Officer Feaster moved towards Thomas, the gun discharged and struck Thomas in the neck. The shot hit Thomas in the C7 and T1 vertebrae and could lead to him being paralyzed for life.

When backup arrived on the scene, Feaster did not mention anything about having fired his weapon. According to Ramsey, Feaster notified his commanding officer about the discharge only after Thomas’ gunshot wound was found.

As the commanding officer suggested an investigator return to Canteena and try to find out if Thomas had been shot at the bar, Feaster revealed that he may have shot Thomas.

Ramsey said nearly 11 minutes passed before any other officers, medics or firefighters learned Thomas had been shot.

According to Ramsey, several factors led investigators to believe the shooting was accidental. “The dash cam video shows Officer Feaster was not prepared for and was surprised by the guns firing. The pistol discharges in mid-stride and the officer both flinches his head to the right and does a stutter step indicative of an officer not prepared for nor intentionally firing his pistol. Additionally, officers normally train to fire a minimum of two shots. There was no second shot and the officer immediately holstered his weapon after the discharge.”

In a media release, Ramsey said “His (Officer Feaster’s) reaction on the dash cam video and his statements to protocol investigators confirm an honest belief that he did not intentionally fire his pistol.”

Paradise Police Chief Gabriela Tazzari-Dineen said Patrick Feaster remains on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

Thomas, who had a blood alcohol concentration of .15, is expected to face driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter charges.

I don't even know where to start.

He drew his gun bc he thought he'd flee? So... he intended to shoot him if he ran and then shot him when he popped out? What about that was accidental?

He definitely tried to cover it up by not mentioning it. That much is clear and not in debate. Shouldn't he be charged with that? His lack of coming forth could have caused the victim to die. That's a big deal, regardless if they want to admit it or not.

This is the shit that pisses me off. That vast majority of cops are great but it's fucking disgusting how they, the higher ups, and the DA take care of the shitty cops. This guy should be in jail for negligence and attempted cover up at the very least.

Believing he would flee answers your question about why he drew the gun. That's most likely standard o
Like I said, there doesn't appear to be a motive for him to shoot, which makes me think it probably was accidental, he just handled it terribly after the shot, but that's kinda understandable considering how shaken up one must be after shooting someone. What riner69er said could be a possible motive, but I think it's a pretty big stretch. I find it hard to believe this cop wanted to shoot someone.

How does that answer my question? Is running from a crash an offense that you should be shot for? I certainly don't think so. The cop should only use his gun in self defense, not bc he doesn't feel like chasing a guy. There was no reason in that video for him to ever pull his weapon.

And no, there's no excuse for trying to cover it up. Zero. You can't give him a pass for that horrible decision while charging the driver with manslaughter after making a bad decision to drive drunk.

Well when a person that a cop is attempting to detain might try to flee, I don't think standard operating procedure is to just stand there and let it happen. I think drawing a weapon is pretty standard. Maybe NoleNBlue could clarify.

Depends on the Intel you have on the subject. If he just robbed a bank and shot the guards on the way out, crashes and bails, the "public safety" aspect could be argued.

Just an ordinary bail out? No

That's kind of what I figured.

In this case, I doubt he had any more intel than seeing him speed by. In which case, not sure if he should have pulled his weapon. The guy did climb out pretty quickly, so maybe that seemed threatening. :idk:
