Most likely, but the sec isn’t adding Cincinnati over Clemson, fsu or Miami. That’s just horrible fan fiction
Why would the SEC add any of those schools, though? Especially if they’re tied in to their current conference until 2036 and too poor to buy themselves out? I’m honestly not trying to troll here, but FSU, Miami, and Clemson really don’t add anything.
Nd, miami, Clemson, fsu. Are the top viewership schools out of all the non big ten/sec. Think Oklahoma state is up there too
mall three of those teams have brand recognition and give the sec more games to say they can put on tv. Those three playing in Death Valley, at bama, auburn etc etc are games ESPN can put on tv. Not Cincinnati you are still believing the silly market argument from 15-20 years ago. Cincinnati gives you a BC, Syracuse, Rutgers clusterfuck
ACC will have the best top teams until it gets raided. Big XII may have the best long-term prospects as it was first to scrap regional identity and say "fuck it, we're just going to collect as many football brands as possible."
from: just the top 30 Spoiler Ohio State (5.19M) Alabama (5.09M) Michigan (4.18M) Notre Dame (3.61M) LSU (3.22M) Auburn (3.12M) Georgia (2.91M) Oklahoma (2.90M) Clemson (2.67M) Penn State (2.55M) Florida (2.46M) Wisconsin (2.27M) Texas (2.269M) Florida State (2.23M) Michigan State (2.20M) Southern Cal (1.98M) Texas A&M (1.851M) Tennessee (1.849M) Oklahoma State (1.64M) Mississippi (1.61M) Iowa (1.57M) Nebraska (1.51M) Miami (1.503M) TCU (1.495M) Stanford (1.43M) Oregon (1.34M) Arkansas (1.33M) Washington (1.32M) Mississippi State (1.31M) West Virginia (1.27M)
I'm sure it's been covered itt, but the truth is that you could just read any article by someone credible who earns a living in the sport. It's been the universal belief that the bigger names are getting snatched up. The sec is the logical place by geography, but obviously there may be big 10 interest in getting into different areas.
ACC is definitely getting picked apart. I don’t think the big 12 is anything that anyone is going to really try to hold together
Again, ACC schools (who are poors) are tied up until 2036 unless they want to pay $80 million to get out. Maybe ESPN helps broker a deal, but until then none of y’all are moving.
If we wanted Oklahoma State, Baylor, or TCU, we would’ve taken them. I could potentially see us approaching the Arizona schools but that’s about it.
If Stanford/Cal/Oregon/Washington go B1G there's nothing worthwhile out west left to grab besides Gonzaga basketball. Or people can keep pretending BYU matters.
Again, they offer nothing for tv money people in Arizona who want to watch sec games are already watching sex games
Arizona and ASU are the PAC's version of Ole Miss and Miss St. "Hey you drank too much in high school to get good grades but you're attractive? I have the perfect school for you!"
im fully aware of the GoR but I don’t think it going to be a thing moving forward. Again, fsu Clemson, Miami offer a ton more than Cincinnati. Also it’s way more than 80 million
It's just not going to take that long. Tell you what - I'll bet you $100 to the NIL collective of the winner's choice that FSU will not be in the ACC by 1/1/36. We'll both still be here if we're alive.
It may not happen immediately, but the more coming news will eventually be that ESPN and Fox slowly get bulldozed by Apple, Amazon, and/or Google for these TV deals. Because they’re the ones with truly bottomless pockets and little regard for turning a profit.
announcement: the big 12 TMB representatives are meeting over private message to discuss the possibilities of expansion
Cincinnati doesn’t even bring you Cincinnati, let alone Ohio or the Midwest. Ohio State and Notre Dame dominate the Fall. Kentucky dominates winter.
people seem to have a very fundamental misunderstanding of the new world order. Its not 1960 anymore. Alabama is on national TV every single weekend and there isn't a recruit in the country that doesn't know who nick saban is. This round of expansion is about adding teams that 1. draw viewers and 2. are committed to building powerhouse programs (football for most of it, but being great in basketball helps) Huge schools with built in fanbases that put out quality products are for more valuable than schools that have been shit for 40 years but are in big markets. The idea that Cincinnati's location makes it more valuable than a nationally recognized brand like Miami or Clemson is absurd.
Maryland and Rutgers definitely helped Ohio State raise its profile in NYC and DC Metro, academically and athletically.
The “silly market argument” that drove yesterdays news. By your “viewership” standards USC and UCLA aren’t a big deal.
Not to mention wrong about everything. Historically sc has a great wbb program and ucla just signed if not the #1 class pretty close to it.
Listen I know I’m the outlier great Kansas fan but I was using the collective we to not make the others feel so left out.
and you really think that's because you blow out rutgers each year and not because OSU has been one of the three best programs of the past 10-20 years?
A lot of people are showing their ass about geography with this move. Reminds me of the Auburn poster that thought Idaho was flat, the state with the Rockies going straight through it. PAC 12 has Utah, Colorado, and the PNW.
