Lose ace and all-star pitcher for 6 weeks. Reigning NL player of the week out bc of quad tightness. Take a lead behind unlikely Saladino 2nd slam. Last year’s closer and all-star blow save. 1st loss when leading after 8 innings. Gut punch.
Lucky for us that the whole division is terrible. With the division being so bad clearly we aren't going to sell off Moustakas or Grandal. Stearns will probably just look to trade for a reliever or two by offering some non prospects like when we traded for a guy like Soria.
Szymborski did trade proposals in a post today. He proposed Stroman for Dubon, Grisham, Ashby, and Shaw. If we were 5-7 games better I would think about it but supposedly Grisham could be a top 100 type when rankings come out next and I'm guessing the club still is planning on Shaw being a part of their future.
I feel like I don't have a good feel for the A+/AA arms at all. Like I know the ones that at one point or another have promising reports, but is any of that sustainable I have no idea.
I choose now to blame Manfred for this. Next year if the ball is still a fucking missile we need a humidor or move the fences back.
The ball is definitely juiced but this rotation has one guy with above average stuff and a bunch of 4th and 5th starters besides Woodruff. Davies has a good ERA but its all smoke and mirrors with a guy that just doesn't miss any bats.
To me this season is over which isn't the end of the world. I do think we need to give Burnes and Peralta a good run in the rotation to end the year. As bad as Burnes has been I refuse to give up on the guy.
Stearns knows this team isn't any good but there is always the concern that Attanasio pushes him to go all in anyway.
I saw that Sogard has 10 HRs this year. If that doesn't prove the balls are juiced I don't know what does.
The Rays supposedly are interested in Aguilar. If they offer anything decent Stearns should pounce on it.
We would probably be in first place if we didn't send Hiura down for a month. I think its time to move our second best hitter to the 3rd spot right behind Yelich.
Can we survive the injury to Chacin. How will we ever replace that 6 ERA that he has put up this year.
The long-term livelihood of the franchise would benefit greatly from Turang living up to his original draft pedigree.
I have been drawing a blank on the thread title so I just went with some Emil Cioran. tradercane I suggest you read his work, you two could be kindered spirits
I think the title appropriately depicts our March to 85 wins and a game out of the second wild card spot
That was fucking awesome. (if you're wondering why I'm here, was born in Milwaukee and worked for the Brewers for two summers in college, always (since '98) been my NL team)
Nice to see them win 2 out of 3 but nothing has changed to me. We are in this race only due to the rest of the division being as awful as we are. Just stand pat or make some minor moves but no reason to trade away anything valuable for any rentals. While I don’t think we have anywhere near the worst farm system baseball America has us rated as the worst. This is due in large part to Hiura no longer being considered a prospect and the number of guys we traded away for Yelich and the rentals last season. Still Stearns and company need to start doing a better job drafting and especially start hitting on some Latin American prospects.
There is nothing that Stearns can do to make this even a half way decent rotation. They won’t do it but I would stretch out Burnes in AAA and give him the last six weeks or so in the rotation. At least Burnes has upside unlike guys like Davies and Chacin who can’t even break 90 on their fastballs.
It’s also time to stop even looking at AAA stats. Shaw was doing great in San Antonio and he still sucks when he plays for us. Another thing that is a complete joke is Dubon hitting for power down there.
Rosenthal says we are in talks with San Diego about pitching for Grisham. I am 100% against trading Grisham away. Just stick with the dumpster diving and realize this isn't our year.
He has had an amazing season. Grisham should be our starting leftfielder next season with Braun moving to first full time.
If we can get anything decent I would move both Grandal and Moustakas. If not just stick with what we have and accept third place. No reason to trade anything worthwhile to improve what is not a good team.
Just say no to Mike Leake and his 85 mph fastball. We have enough of these types in the rotation as is.
I'm just not as worried about stocking the farm as long as free agency is so cheap. Any team in the Yelich window should be aggressive. The industry as a whole is overvaluing prospects and undervaluing veterans. The only point of stocking the farm in this environment is for ammo to improve midseason. That's just my .02
We can't compete consistently if we aren't getting contributions from our farm system. Even with free agency being cheap we can only give out so many 10 million dollar contracts.
Aguilar was traded to Tampa for someone called Jake Faria? I have no idea who he is so no comments as of yet. Aguilar seems like a great guy so I wish him well but I don't expect him to be productive again.
The way I've seen it described is that it's a logical swap to fill holes on each side. Both have had success and struggles in the big leagues
