My aunt had a house on the Mississippi river in northern Iowa and we saw a bull shark in the river. At first I was quesitoning how they could be in Missouri/Illinoi, but I'm sure there could be a bite in the river.
New Hampshire has 17 miles of ocean coastline and not one single shark attack. They must be doing something right.
there is a very tiny sliver of Bosnia that touches the sea between split and Dubrovnik, and I know that because we went through customs when we drove through it and it caused like an hour delay in getting to Dubrovnik
I was just reading about the lil' gap! Croatia is currently building a bridge that will connect from near Kiek on the map to the peninsula that zips right under Neum. I figured the boundary must have been a result of some negotiations in the 90s, but it's actually from a treaty that was signed in 1699! And why was I all of a sudden reading about Croatia this weekend? Spoiler
They just finished putting the bridge together. Now it’s just working on the access points and it’ll be open in a few months.

Crazy thing is that that map is latitudinally accurate. In other words, if you took the Mediterranean Sea and scooted it about 100º west, that's where it would end up. You usually don't think of northern Italy as being on the same line as Montana, but there you go.
Edmonton, 180 miles north of Calgary, is the northernmost metropolis in the Americas. Aaaaand, it's about on equal footing with Manchester, England. Edinbergh, Scotland, is further north than Ketchikan, Alaska.
I was in Prague midsummer once. Sun went down at like 10 and came up at 4. I'm like wtf? Then I look at my map and realize I'm on the equivalent of the northern latitudes of Canada
Let's list the directional extremes we've traveled to. Farthest north: Berlin (52 degrees North) Farthest south: Buenos Aires (34 degrees South) Farthest east: Taipei (121 degrees East) Farthest west: Seattle (122 degrees West) (Longitudes go 0-180 and latitudes go 0-90)
North: Vikoyri, Norway 61 East: Stockholm 18 West: San Francisco 122 South: Cape Canaveral 28 N I need to get out more.
North Vancouver East Toyoko West Vancouver South Jamaica or Puerto Rico (not sure which is more south )
Basically the same. I excluded nov - mar as it doesn’t fit within my argument of it being basically the same. Plus no one goes outside during those times anyways
So you’re telling me that my social studies teacher that said the closer you are to the equator the warmer the weather is full of shit
