probably just walk around downtown hendersonville or asheville also i took the backroads from charlotte to hendersonville and downtown saluda was a gorgeous drive
Yea walking downtown on Biltmore and Lexington will have lots of shops where your wife can spend lots of money.
Had Stoney Knob for lunch today; awesome spot. Loved the Jerk Chicken wrap. That paled in comparison to Curate though. One of the best meals I’ve had in some time.
Going with three people who aren't into IPAs or Stouts, so it will be a quick Burial stop for me. They like Hi Wire and Twin Leaf, which are OK.
Eh...yes of course. Just not their place. I admit I liked it better when it was more off the beaten path.
My final food review Billy Taco’s: Awesome spot. Sunset Terrace: Doesn’t matter had sex (it was quite good though)
Also, we did the Looking Glass and Bridal Veil Falls hikes. Both were awesome. We kind of meandered all over and ended up doing close to 20 miles over the two days we hiked.
Great margaritas. Enjoyed the one meal I had there. Been around a while which is a good sign in Asheville
Backpacked the Sam Knob section of Pisgah Forest this weekend. Great time. Carried two beers from Burial into the woods for campfire drinking. Map of area we hiked:
Has anyone ever seen dogs with antenna collars on running wild through the woods? If so what's up with that
Hiked the Three Waterfall hike at Dupont and the Catawba Falls hike this weekend. Great times. Curate was amazing and Limones was fantastic as well. Only thing that sucked was 50% capacity at the breweries meant there were long lines for all of them. Didn't hit all the ones I wanted, but still had a fun weekend.
Yeah, we walked by Wicked Weed, Burial and Green Man. Found a table with no wait at Catawba and then had 3 groups in front of us at Twin Leaf before getting a table. I wasn't with big IPA/Sour fans, so not a big deal. But just annoying that I couldn't just slip into Burial for one beer and buy some to go.
I had to wait to get in Burial but only about 5 minutes. Also went to Oskar Blues in Brevard yesterday when we emerged from the woods. They have a great setup for COVID, all open air
Yes, forgot that we did hit Oskar Blues after the Dupont hike and that worked well. Good burgers and beer. And a table of about 12 smoking hot ladies that the other guy and I were trying to discreetly watch, lol. We stayed southwest of town and hit a brewery out there called Blushing Bush in Mills River and they have a nice outdoor setup as well. Didn't try the IPAs but some good Fest beers.
Me and my buddy are spoken for but felt like we had girls eying us all weekend. Have a beard and a dog and you’re in like Flynn up there
went to graveyard fields this morning. was very nice, gonna come back next year before the blueberries are gone, saw dried up berries everywhere. the parkway was a shitshow heading home
if you were on game land the dogs could have been flushing birds or rabbits. never seen myself but know people who run dogs with tracking collars.
could be bear hunting. i wasn’t sure what the regs were for bear dogs in NC, but googling taught me it’s pretty common.
If the traffic on I40 between Asheville and Winston this weekend was any indicator I’d say you’ve got perfect timing!
The parkway has been absolutely slammed. I'd recommend maybe going into Brevard or something. I'm sure it'll be crowded too but it's not a 2 lane road
I'm staying with friends that have lived there for a couple years, so following their lead. Have done zero research or made any plans. Along for the ride.
Probably going to make a short weekend trip with the GF Nov12th for a long weekend. Never been but pretty pumped, No itinerary yet but will probably just try to drink as much beer as possible eat some good food and relax. Should we expect everything to be fairly crowded like mentioned a few post back? And AirBnB>Hotel if we want to walk around downtown as much as possible? Haven't looked for a spot to stay yet
Not sure what the airbnb situation is downtown. Generally I prefer the scene in West Asheville anyways and there are lots of bnb options there
Moved to Durham this summer and haven't gotten out into west NC too much. I did a 12 mile loop at Hanging Rock this past weekend. Any recommendations for single day hikes in the state? Comfortable up to 15 miles with elevation.
If being walkable to downtown is the #1 priority than hotel is by far your best option. Whole house Airbnb is illegal in the city limits so your only options are going to be private units within a house. Not many very close to downtown I don’t think. More options in River Arts or West Asheville
ALoft is great. No idea what the corona situation is right now, but I always stay there its just so convenient.
In Mills River for work this week. Went into downtown yesterday and grabbed some food and beer at Burial which was great. Worked late today so just went back to my hotel near the airport. Looking forward to coming back and spending more time here. Sucks Sierra Nevada is still closed. Was working right next door. Drove through the parking lot but obviously couldn’t go into the brewery.
So I’m staying in west Asheville and gonna grab biscuit head for breakfast tomorrow. Will most likely hit up wicked weed and burial tomorrow, hoping they’re less crowded than the weekend. Any suggestions for barbecue? Any roadside boiled peanut stands? Or just gas station ones? Can’t remember if this is too far north for them. I’ll take any other food or booze suggestions. TIA
Staying at a cabin in Mars Hill this weekend for my bday. Leaving today and stopping at Sierra Nevada otw
Still?!? Wow, we were there in mid-September and they said early to mid-October. Geez. Outdoor part is fantastic and safer if they kept people out there.
Sierra is just closed for on premises consumption right? I am planning to stop by for takeout and gift shop. Hoping they will have Celebration Ale
12 Bones is my favorite bbq. The worst part about them is their shitty hours but it will work for you being here mid-week. Go to the one in River Arts and simultaneously enjoy a beer from Wedge. I'm not aware of any roadside boiled peanut stands near town. If biscuithead is slammed, other breakfast options near there would be Sunny Point or Hole (homemade donuts). Taco Billy for breakfast tacos is my favorite spot in town.
