opening today. set up all my gear at my front door last night, I feel like a kid on their first day back at school
Healthy, so that's a plus. My single today on deadlift (515) will prob be my opener. This meet will be my first with the "new" forms. Moved my hands out on bench and moved my feet IN for deadlift (cause I'm an anti-cheater). We'll see how it goes!
This block is so much volume. I’m going to have to be on my recovery A game to make it through with quality progression
Started a high intensity interval workout gym having a grand opening six week challenge. They give you protein, carbs, and fat macros too so you eat right. This week my macros are insane.. 218 protein and 97 fat. Stoked to lower those and add carbs back next week. Down two belly inches in a week. Arms are the same. Chest down an inch, hips and thighs too. I know a lot of it is bloat and stuff this early, but I feel good and have made it every day at 630am
i actually decided to cut back on pb intake before my workouts. was having awful cases of the burps during squat and dead days. my gym’s bars are getting trashed lately. came in and someone had been doing rack pulls with the deadlift bar and landmine rows with the squat bar. put nothing away.
Jamal Browner 835 snatch grip triple Haack 854 single Kevin Oak 670 SSB front squat triple crazy shit
Anyone have any recommendations for liquid chalk? Capstone 88 - What are you going to do as far as face mask/shield for your meet? I'm leaning toward face shield. I can't get a good deep breath in any of the masks that I've tried.
I haven’t thought about that, but that’s a good point. A shield is probably the way to go do you compete this weekend?
So the guy that ran most of the USPA meets in the Southeast broke off to start his own federation. Which is weird since things seemed to be going well. Turns out, USPA found out his wife is a convicted pedophile and stripped her of her judging status. So I’d steer clear of anyone doing a USPC (United States Powerlifting Coalition) meet.
Underrated part of having home gym no one talks about.... Lifting in your underwear. No shorts required
Pretty annoyed, but I guess it's kind of expected... I ordered a 4x8 sheet of rubber from Rubber Flooring Inc. It took them 26 days to get it delivered. I repeatedly had to chat with them asking when it was going to ship. Finally they just created a shipping label (probably to shut me up)....then never shipped it for another week. the roll came cracked in two places, about a 10" long. Probably from the shipping. Well I cut it in half and installed it b/c I didn't want to wait another fucking Month for a replacement. reached out today and b/c I cut it they will not give me any refund/replacement. Seems a bit absurd. Shit was probably 2.5x more than horse stall mats from tractor supply b/c shipping was so fucking much. I don't think it's a massive issue, but it's just fucking annoying. Pretty hefty crack in the rubber. Was hoping to use it on the underside, but you can see it's split through. I don't think it'll effect much outside looks. Not sure if I can get some rubber sealant and mold it together
I knew in the back of my mind if I cut it, they'd try to refuse my refund. Just annoying that it took fucking forever in this long ordeal to get all the different parts I was just hoping to be done with it. The crack isn't bad and it shouldn't effect anything. Should've just driven 45 minutes into the country for horse stall mats
USPA president sent out a scathing email and cancelled all of the USPA East meets including meets scheduled for this weekend. It sucks for the lifters, but absolutely what needed to be done.
I personally liked “If you are a USPA official that intends to assist Johnny in the future, please email Steve Denison at [email protected] directly so we can promptly deactivate your USPA credentials.”
So Thursday morning was my last day of what I would consider true working sets of squats before my taper week. Only had 425 on the bar, but got careless and pulled something in my back. I swear every time this happens it's the same thing...not sleeping well and not overly heavy weight. Just careless. Pushing back my last heavy bench day by a couple days to let it heal up and have 3 taper days this week coming up. Frustrating as hell.
Remember thinking how crazy it was for Haack having a 250 kg max bench like a month ago and has only raised it nearly 40 pounds since. Dickhead.
switched to am lifts last week. noticed a real lack of soreness. gonna play this through for a while.
I used to do twice a day. Now, I'm lazy af the whole day besides that 2-3 hour late afternoon/early evening window where I turn it on. I like it. If Big Ten can bring back football then maybe I'll regain my sanity too.
deadlift has completely stalled. once i get to 405+ it just doesn't want to move or it feels like my lower back is taking more abuse that it should. it started sucking in july, and then the last month i've been healing a huge gash on my shin. just in my feelings this morning.
So I need some help, I’m going to start building out my home gym and trying to think what I need. For the sake of budget let’s call it $5k to start. If it goes over a bit that’s fine too. I have really nothing weight wise so a power rack etc is needed for sure. what do y’all think? I know inventory is limited as shit but I can take my time putting it together. Space is essentially 14x14’, 100”H
I went back to the strongman programming i had which alternated weeks between sets of 5's and 3's, squats were more intense one week, deads more the next. more intense would be adding either sets or increasing weight. dead day today was supposed to be 4x5 conventional 4x6-8 rdl heavy 3x8-10 bb hip thrusts 3x failure GHD feel like it's technique failure and i'm not sure how to go about breaking down/building back up. in the past my failure was locking out the lift, never struggled to get anything off the ground before. between the shin wound and an unfortunate battle with a poison ivy rash, i have been limited in doing some lifts like rdls.
If you want an extra eye I don’t mind taking a look at the video and seeing if anything sticks out to me
i'll do some filming next week. i was planning to this morning, but I got a late start and forgot about it.
I didn't spend anywhere close to $5k on mine, but obviously you can spend as little or as much as you want on something like this. -Barbell -Cast Iron plates -Flat bench -Power rack or squat stand -rubber stall mats from Tractor Supply That's a basic list of where I started. You'll have to do research on those things to see what fits your needs best, so I'd just browse Rogue, Rep, Titan, etc, and read Internet reviews of products to see what works best for you.
Should easily be able to do it for less than $5,000. Your biggest issue will be finding product in stock. Bar 450 Power Rack 700 Plates 750-1000 Platform 200 Depends on what else you want and how fancy you want to get. Above is 2100-2400
That’s what I’m having trouble with. I can find racks at Rogue, can’t find plates anywhere. Barbells are tough and go too
Rep makes a great bench Would probably go through rogue for barbells at this time. Got an Ohio bar with no problems. SSB is always a good addition Get yourself on an e-mail list for plates or trust a back order. Would buy just enough to get you through this time No idea for rack recommendations Dumbbells same as plates, can’t build a collection right now Most are sold out but I’ve seen a few good GHDs out there, want 1 bad but out of room
It would be great if we had a resource on home gyms. Like a running list of good companies or something. Maybe review equipment so we know what to buy. Maybe create a website and IG to house all this info.
Hit a 150 Z press single at end of 2+ hour workout. I’m pleased, haven’t done any max singles of any lift in a while and best I’ve ever done is 135x3 fresh.
