I'd suggest you look at crown & caliber here in Atlanta for consignment. A good work buddy of mine in Dallas had them sell an auto tag for him and he was pleased with the result.

How much bigger/thicker is the deep sea than sub, is it a 42 or 44mm? And thicker too, right?

Really like this timex line, I have two expedition chronographs. One is my all black watch, the other is a gunmetal color I wear on nato straps.

Need some advice. I have a Tag Formula One Chronograph with the metal bracelet. Im looking to get a second watch with a more simple face and a leather band. Looking to spend probably anywhere from $500-800. Possibly automatic since this would become my typical daily wear. Brands? Models?

For reference my current watch below

On the high end, I like the Oris Artelier. You should be able to find one in your range if you look hard enough.

On the low end, I like the Hamilton Jazzmaster.

This was 888 a few days ago. May want to keep an eye out.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but that price range is just kind of a dead zone for automatic watches. If you're set on getting one, I'd suggest saving some more money.

I have a few Seiko autos I quite like I've gotten even cheaper than that (inc mint bullhead worth more that I got for $300 if I remember right). Obviously not a "nice watch" but they have quite the following for a reason. If it's an only watch though or only auto I'd agree with the Iowan and save up for something better.

No I wasnt being sarcastic at all. Sorry if it came off that way. I know next to nothing about watch movements, so I'm glad you said this. Ill focus my attention on non-automatic watches.

Not really. I got this tag as an 18th birthday present from my dad, so I would rather not part with it.

I definitely want to try to get a good quality watch, and looks like I wont be able to get than in an automatic in my price range.

There are plenty of automatic options in the sub $800 range, but you have to go with a micro brand. I have two watches from a company called Halios that are fantastic quality. Example: http://halioswatches.com/halios-delfin/

I've spent a decent amount of time in the micro brand dive watch world so could make some other suggestions. Going used is an option as well. Check out www.watchrecon.com. I've bought and sold there with absolutely no issues.

The issue with some of those micro brands is that the highly sought after models can be difficult to obtain brand new or you have to wait forever for them to come in stock. There is lots of "flipping" in that community so the used market can be super helpful. People will essentially buy watches on a whim, never wear them, then flip for the next impulse purchase. I got tired of waiting for a new pre-order round for that Halios Delfin so bought new/used. Depending on model/brand, resale can actually be higher. I have a Halios 1000M (aka Puck) that I could get 1k for when I paid $750 new.

Oris is a great swiss brand. I have 2 of their watches and love both. In terms of name recognition domestically, I'd say that they are a slight step down from tag, but a big upgrade over the Hamiltons and tissots of the world. Imo.

Eta - they may be right in the middle between tag and Hamilton. I'm probably biased because they're my favorite brand

Not as concerned with name recognition as much as quality of product. But thanks for the information. Actually leaning towards the Oris right now

I think that Oris is a step above Tag. I really like mine and also like the fact that not everyone has them. I have a TT1 diver on rubber.
