My first job in Birmingham was in that Riverchase Office Park. I used to wreck all the food spots around there. Another low key good burger option is Backyard Burger.
For a big sports bar restaurant type spot (with great wings) that can accomodate a full team, go to Patton Creek to Baumhower's Victory Grille.
There’s a Jim N’ Nick’s BBQ restaurant about 5 mins from the civic center that will check a lot of your boxes. Cheese biscuits are a highlight. Also a Moe’s Original BBQ in Patton Creek close by.
Are you looking for dinner places? Lunch? How many people in your group? How far are you willing to drive? I assume you’re staying close to where you’re playing.
Things in about a 15 minute radius: Moe’s Original BBQ Mr. P’s deli Kool Korner Sandwiches Diplomat Deli Tony’s Hot Dogs for lunch or breakfast
Have Full Moon and Jim & Nick's upped their game in the past few years? They've been mentioned a few times on this page. Five years ago, Full Moon on Valley Ave was somewhat decent if you were in a pinch, but every time I visited a Jim & Nick's I was shocked at how average the food was. Am I being a snob?
The original Full Moon downtown is great. The franchised Full Moon’s are pretty average at best. Jim & Nicks is the La Paz of BBQ.
You're being a snob and it was also mentioned most as a location for someone in Pelham and traveling with a kids hockey team
In that case I'm fine with being a snob when it comes to BBQ. Why eat below average BBQ when there's a plethora of good BBQ options in the area for approximately the same price? And this is the comment that prompted my post:
Now I'm looking at a map of the Greensprings area. Is the Paw Paw Patch still fire? What about Acapulco?
Based on past experiences, I wouldn't purposefully go to either place, but if I had to choose then yes I'd say Full Moon is better. I haven't been to either place in 5+ years, though.
I was spoiled by B's BBQ on College Hill Road in Oxford, MS. It's phenomenal BBQ served out of a gas station, and I lived down the road from it for a few years. It's unfortunate, really, because a lot of places can't hold a candle to it. If you're ever in Oxford, it's worth going out of your way for.
I don't ever go to Full Moon or Jim n' Nicks. Just don't see the reason when you have four Saw's locations, Miss Myra's, Rodney Scott, Moe's, Martin's, etc.
def don't think the bbq at jim n nick's is all that exciting but they have good items for a large group. we get it catered a lot for office events. the chicken tenders, cheese biscuits, mac & cheese, etc. are all excellent.

280 shut down both ways at the water works because of a chemical spill. If this doesn't clear up before rush hour, this could be Birmingham traffic's magnum opus
My office is probably a mile a way. People are freaking out that they can smell the gas inside our building. I don’t smell anything. These people just want to go home.
Raymond James Building and probably Brookwood Mall being evacuated. My building not. Does Alexander Shunnrah handle exposure to toxic gas cases?
Atomic Lounge is a 2019 James Beard Award semifinalist for Outstanding Bar Program. Timothy Hontzas from Johnny's in Homewood nominated for Best Chef in the South region.
Anybody else think Johnny’s is overhyped? It’s a good meat and 3, but I haven’t had anything there that makes me think it’s anywhere close to being worthy of 3 straight Beard nominations. I don’t get it.
I drove by around 9:30 and it smelled like a pool right when new chlorine is added. This was before I knew about the spill.
I think the typical meat and three side items are above average but some of their specialty offerings, specifically what they turn out on Seafood main course Thursday's, are outstanding.
