The big thing that has destroyed the offense is the (expected) regression of players like Frank. We kind of had an idea that Wisdom was probably a .230 hitter with 35 homer power with poor plate discipline, but there was hope that Frank might be decent and not just have been a product of major league pitchers not having a scouting report on him. Only guy I'm worried about is Madrigal. He's just not been himself to start the year. The other guys just are who they are at this point, with the exception of Happ who may have turned a corner. Hoerner is a good defensive shortstop with good contact and nearly non existent power. Heyward should be DFA'd Contreras...let's just get the best return we can Schwindel is a 4 A player Wisdom plays decent defense and has power Ortega and Hermosillo aren't big league bats Villar is a great platoon option for a contender In Summation...it's tim to return this thread to what it was in 2013-2014...the Cubs Minor League thread.
That was the goal of this season. Trying to see if guys like Patrick, Frank are legit or not. I think your post is spot on. Basically we are doing a mirror rebuild to what Theo did, sign guys on short deals, flip them at the deadline till the farm is ready to show out. My guess is 2023 we improve some to be a fringe playoff team and 2024 should be a legit playoff challenger. But most of that depends on guys on our farm like Killian, Davis, Crow, Franklin develop. so far returns of the progress down at the farm is highly encouraging.
This is the exact moment for them to cut heyward. There’s literally no reason for him to be on this roster
This dude is a stud when it comes to the farm system... Great thread for those who want to dive into what could be coming up soon...
If I had to guess on guys we'll see this year, on top of the guys we've already seen Brennen Davis (he needs to turn it around if he wants to come up this year though) Nelson Velasquez Caleb Killian Ben Leeper Cayne Uekert Ryan Jensen (maybe) Alex Canario (September) Anderson Espinoza That's just guys among our top 30 list.
Hip injuries are a bitch. I had one back in high school, and even now if I move the wrong way, I get an extremely painful, aching type of pain in my left hip.
Dude has been outstanding thus far. Prospect I'm most excited with right now is PCA. He was basically a lock to be an elite defensive player, but his bat has been spectacular, and he's developed a power stroke.
Im still all in on Caissie… started slow but is turning it on. Lots of really promising developments up and down the farm so far.
IDK how many in here really pay attention to the minors, but we have a bunch of outfield prospects just absolutely mashing over the last month. Caissie, Alcantara, Pinango, Velasquez, Canario, PCA, etc... Could have several more top 100 prospects by end of season rankings.
I'm undoubtedly going to jinx him, but Keegan Thompson deserves top 3 Cy Young talk right now. His numbers are actually that good.
Offense was in a terrible place when all our key guys went down (Contreras, Hoerner, etc.), but they’ve really bounced back well the last three weeks. Over our last twenty games we’ve averaged just over 5 runs a game.
Feel bad for Swarmer Wisdom with a low throw and Schwindel couldn't make the scoop... couple hitters later and they tie with a 2 run hr Frank is a shit first baseman. Doesn't stretch for most throws and not good at scooping. Rizzo spoiled us.
Team is no longer worth watching for anything other than the young guys who are developing at the big league level. We were always going to suck. Just happened a few months early.
Seems like a good season to see a game in Pittsburgh... maybe in September Prob gonna be less than 30 bucks to get in for 3 games and then it's free reign pretty much everywhere
Its really is nonsense that this guy is going to be in the starting lineup at this point. Jed needs to give a reason behind it.
I was pissed this was the week they were in town. I was going to go watch Herz and PCA tonight, but I’ve got a 7 am flight out of CVG so I passed. Also Morel is doing way better than I thought he’d be to start his career.
