So after tonight Cubs Starters ERA 2.3 Cubs Bullpen ERA 9.36 We currently have arguably the best rotation in baseball so far and the worst bullpen.
Chatwood now has 0.71 ERA and has only issued 2 walks over nearly 13 innings pitched. That's almost as stunning as Yelich starting the year 1-27.
A bad bullpen also is having the issue that nearly everyone is throwing 2-5 mph less this year. I don’t remember seeing this on such a grand scale before.
I feel the same. See if we can get him locked up for two to three more years. Whatever yips he had that made him lose all control seem to be seriously gone and the movement on all his pitches is excellent.
When are we expecting Brennan Davis to make it to the majors? I'm dreading watching Almora flail around at the plate for another couple years. I wish they'd just stop with platooning him and Happ because over their careers Happ is not much worse than Almora from the right side of the plate.
Davis is projected 2022 kid. Maybe we see him late next season unless he takes another major step but it’s gone be tough to judge that considering the season. Almora is at least seeing more pitches. But he’s bat is never going to be what keeps him on this roster. I can’t imagine how mentally jacked he is from the struggles to hitting that kid with the foul ball. I’m rooting for him but don’t expect much
I'm rooting for him but we need to move on from him. Don’t care that it was the Pirates, great to see the bullpen perform in a low scoring close win.
Ross should put Chatwood or Darvish between Mills and Hendricks in the rotation. Someone who throws some gas in between the two guys who throw slow and change speeds. Hendricks Lester Darvish Mills Chatwood
On the broadcast last night Len mentioned the Cubs rotation averaged 90mph on its fastball as a staff. The lowest in baseball... yet has the best ERA.
Hendricks and Mills are really good at throwing off-speed, so their fastballs seem faster than they are
I’m aware. I’m just saying they’re in a similar mold so I think putting someone in between them would benefit the club in the long run rather than having them going back to back. Not that it’s been a problem as the rotation is currently mowing through opposing lineups.
Best record in baseball...think some of it is smoke and mirrors, but I also think that holding on to Bryant (regardless of reason) and bringing back Ross, mixed with COVID uncertainty, has bonded the team even further. I've always thought that team chemistry was more important in baseball than any other sport because of the grind. It's good to be in a clubhouse that you like.
Certainly could be part of it but like you said some of it is smoke and mirrors. We've played a Brewer's team that struggled to start the year, a mediocre at best Reds team, a beyond dreadful Pirates team, a bad KC team, and then Cleveland while they're down 2 of their top starters. We've gotten really lucky with our early season schedule imo
I thought he still looked like shit and was fortunate that he faced their worst hitters That check swing strikeout was a bail out and he's still wild
Bruce Levine (https://twitter.com/MLBBruceLevine) is an absolute ROLLER COASTER of a twitter follow. The definition of a boomer. His tweets are so indecipherable that he has a parody account that literally translates every one of his tweets, and another that relentlessly mocks his nonsensical tweeting. https://twitter.com/BruceTranslator https://twitter.com/BruceMlb Anyway, this is the most recent tweet from the REAL (not parody) Bruce Levine:
fucked up part tonight was it was two guys who have been pretty good for us. on a positive note Kimbrel with another strong outing. We really need to add an arm in this bullpen.
Alec Mills is not a long term solution in the rotation. He's 4th in the league now at HR/9. Everyone wants to say he's like Hendricks but the problem with that is he misses his locations too often and they're meatballs when he does.
Q will eventually fill that slot. problem is we need Chatwood to get healthy. His back is not good and his last two outings show it.
