Hope you guys are excited for Alim McNeil. I’m not sure what your needs are but everybody could use more run stuffers, and he’s definitely that. Won’t generate a ton of pass rush, but assuming he can transition to the size and speed of NFL players he’s gonna be a really good DT for you. Guys a fire hydrant in the middle.
I'm cautiously optimistic, but Quinn first draft we took OT, DT, IOL, S, OL, LB at start of draft and we had a more talented roster to begin with. I just think at this point with Lions I really won't believe anything until I see it
What’s a realistic record at this point? 5-12? I just want us to be in position to draft one of top QBs next year.
Because of Holmes/Campbell? Or because there's finally a thread icon showing again? It's the latter for me.
Actually looking at our schedule, we will be lucky to win 4 games. Here are the non divisional opponents. @ Falcons @ Browns V. Arizona V. 49ers V. Baltimore V. Cincy V. Philly @ Rams @ Steelers @ Broncos @ Seahawks
Current roster.... QB - Goff, Boyle, Blough RB - Swift, Williams, Johnson, Jefferson FB - Cabinda, Bawden WR1 - Williams, Cephus WR2 - Perriman, Allison, Ratley SLOT - St. Brown, Raymond, Kennedy TE - Hockenson, Hill, Bryant (IR), Mack LT - Decker, Nelson, Skipper LG - Jackson C - Swanson, Brown RG - Vaitai, Stenberg RT - Sewell, Crosby DE - Flowers, Hand DT - Onwuzirike, McNeil, Penisini, Strong DE - Brockers, Williams, Cornell RUSH - R. Okwara, Harris OLB - J. Okwara, Bryant ILB - Anzalone, Reeves-Maybin ILB - Collins, Barnes, Tavai, Hamilton CB - Okudah, Melifonwu CB - Dunbar, Oruwariye SLOT - Elder, Ford FS - Walker, Moore SS - Marlowe, Harris, Elliott K - Bullock, Wright P - Fox LS - Muhlbach
I have no clue what our defensive scheme ultimately looks like, but that's my best guess. Seems like they'll just throw the two best LBs they have inside and hope it works. Same with the DL, where from the sounds of it Brockers is playing a base DE role, which might push Flowers inside to more of a DT spot where he may get more pass rush. I think we'll add some veteran bodies for depth on the interior OL and possibly safety before camp. I also think we're going to be hitting the waiver wire hard during camp looking for some young guys at WR in the hopes of finding a diamond in the rough of sorts. That is a bad football team unless all three of these happen... - Glenn works magic with the young CBs and they can be average at stopping the run - Goff looks more like the 12th best QB in the league instead of the 20th - The OL is so dominant we run for 150 yards every week
I'm still thinking about 6 win ceiling but this SHOULD be the best rushing team the Lions have had in 20+ years. Would at least be an interesting change of pace from the usual. Just need the passing game to be...passable to make it happen imo. With at least some positive signs on defense, I'm pretty optimistic about the future after this season.
There are a lot of good LB on that list, but I think the lesson is that if you draft an LB highly you better have a plan for their usage.
PFF guys were talking about how almost no true LBs grade out well anymore because of what offenses do these days. Guys like White, Bush, Wagner, and Warriner overcome that with big impact plays, but don't really grade well down-to-down themselves.
14 of the 28 are not yet eligible for their second contract. 4 of the 14 whose first contract ran out did receive a 2nd deal from the team that drafted them. Shazier would have if he didn't get hurt.
And Mosley didn't sign with Baltimore because he got like $70M from the Jets. I think the 5th year option thing hurts LBs because the price tag there is pretty tough to justify for teams with any cap issues if they aren't elite.
Brugler put a 2022 mock out, with us taking Howell 2. He had Rattler going 1 to Houston. He also had Malik Willis and JT Daniels in the top 10.
That sucks. I was kind of hoping he'd help us, and potentially help Hockenson become a better blocker.
Any minority coach or front office person who gets a HC or GM job elsewhere gets you a pick at the end of the comp round in round three the next two years. So, if Lynn gets a HC job, we'd get a pick probably between 100-110 in 22 and 23.
I'm guessing he fucked it up and meant 98 2 (our 1st) 32 (rams 1st) 34 (our 2nd) 66 (our 3rd) 98 (our 3rd rd comp) 100 (4th rd pick)
