Kind of on subject. My child who goes to middle school school with a couple kids that do the whole furry thing. Pretty simple just to have an honest discussion with him when he came home asking about it. Live and let live buddy, don’t make fun or be mean, etc. they are human and everyone is different. If they aren’t hurting anyone then it shouldn’t bother anyone. Lots of Parents are pussies. Just talk to your fucking kids and be honest…. They will end up better humans than the sheltered ones
Little more on this. Same kid now asked about how drug addiction works, primarily discussing pills. We talked about opiate addiction, etc. How sometimes good people can be drug addicts and sometimes doctor prescribed pills can be dangerous. Guess what? He understood and will probably be less curious as he goes through HS, etc. When it comes to “adult” subjects preteens and teens want to be treated like an adult and talked to like one. They know when your full of shit.

He’s in 7th and there are two kids in 8th grade that say they are furries. Wear tails, head pieces, etc and tell kids they are “furries”. Some parents have gone to the school to complain etc. which is silly to me. I don’t know the kids or the families, so not sure if they are truly identifying as something, etc. or just having fun and doing some kind of cosplay thing.
And that’s not what I said or implied. And I don’t believe that. I think being a furry is much different than saying “I’m a cat, I need kitty litter.” Which I believe that isn’t happening at any school. Even if a kid wanted that, a school would never do it due to health code. It’s silly that anyone thinks a litter box would be in school
There was a furry convention at the hotel attached to my office building right before covid started and it was all young adults who seemed like they weren't quite cool enough to be in glee club or color guard. They seemed very awkward and nice and they all used the people bathrooms that I saw. It's basically comicon.
No furries “identify as animals” in the same sense as gender identity. That’s absurd and made up to denigrate transgender people.
Yeah, we have had the whole transgender talk as well. He thought it was weird but I simply explained that’s because you don’t feel that way. It’s normal for them and that’s who they are, so therefore it’s just normal. He understood they may think he is weird because they don’t understand how he feels. Trying to raise him where he has no phobia of this kind of stuff and to respect and love all for who they are.
Of course we in the Deep South, so I’m sure his friends go home and ask and get a different message from their parents.

My simple rule has always been don’t lie. I don’t lie to my kids about booze, drugs etc. My kids know about my knucklehead past. Lie to your kids about shit and when they learn the truth they will be less likely to believe and trust you. Trust your kids if you’ve raised them right they’ll make the right decision more often than not and when they fuck up remember they are human and (when it comes to I’ve fucked up more than they ever could combined) you’ve probably fucked up a fair amount.
