I wish the nhl upped their games a little on broadcasting Sunday afternoon games when the nfl is over. What is the hold up? College basketball? I am genuinely asking since the American market is not something i am well versed in and Truman the man who wanted to buy a team and bring them in Quebec just bought a cfl team. That dream is even more over than I thought lol. It was never realistic for a small French Canadian city
Would you say a lot of Nordiques fans found another team? Or did a good amount stay with the team as it went to Denver?
His syphillis meds finally kicked in and he realized that the nhl was too much for him. i hate that dude with a passion by the way, absolute clown. Not sure I could have been behind a team owned by him
Loaded question here but interesting, I would say half of them went to the habs, mostly the regions rallied towards the habs, the diehard haters of the habs became bruins fans lol, mind boggling to me but they hate mtl so much that they just went to the opposite. Rarely I see a avs fan nowadays but these dudes are for real, they think they are still following the same team. When the avs became the avs I became a avs fan until the players slowly aged and stopped playing. I think my favorite moment as a hockey fan was when the avs won the cup with bourque. Might sound weird but I was so happy when that happened for multiple reasons. weird and sad
So when Molson (habs owner) says he is pulling for a team in Quebec City, he is full of shit. The regions are why he wants no part of a team in Quebec City. Regions always rally towards the smaller city, the nordiques mean that half of quebec is now pulling for another team and buying tickets to go to Quebec instead of mtl since it’s cheaper and also easier to get to
A team in Quebec also dips into the habs maritime fanbase the NHL just doesn’t like it around here, but it would be a success for the league without a doubt Quebec would be a terrible team to root for though, young nhl players would all play out their contracts and get out of here.
Guy I went to HS with still follows the Canes (mind you the Whalers left when we were about 7). Weird and sad is a good way to describe him.
But kidding aside, it’s a weird dynamic. I was a habs fan as a kid so not too hard on me but it got dicey when I was 10 or so and I wanted the nordiques to do well, started to understand the players and see what they could do well. It’s why I will always overrate Peter forsberg. He was here for a hot minute and I love how he played so much he will be my favorite player forever
Fun little story, I was a kid and full of myself(nothing changed much) and the nordiques were touring arenas for minor hockey so the players could promote, I went straight at Stephane fiset and asked him what was his goal against average(I knew it and was ready) once he answered I told him mine and made it clear that I was better than him.
So as much as I hate Atlanta being a name thrown out for a new franchise, I also understand that this sport needs to expand and be more accessible for minorities. I still remember that little interaction like it was yesterday, having players available can do wonders.
Friedman and Marek say they think Carter Hart is going to be on the table. Ottawa, Buffalo, or Seattle seem like likely destinations.
What’s the flyers time table for a rebuild? Trading away a piece that will be in his prime for the next ten years seems like a bad move.
Very few goaltenders or players in general are still in their prime into their 30’s. That’s about 6 years.
I disagree assuming you can get max value out of Hart. A great goalie is the worst thing you can have when your team is rebuilding because he will win games you shouldn't be winning.
Wish this was in sporacle form. 31 Countries have been represented in the NHL. Can you name a player from each one? I got 17 Spoiler I missed - Great Britain, Italy, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Poland, S Korea, Netherlands, Croatia, Japan, Ireland, Jamaica, Lebanon, Hungary, Lithuania
Fun to play along but stupid that their list includes players born in a country but then raised in a hockey playing country (and they’re randomly inconsistent with it). Like no, there hasn’t been a Lebanon-trained, Irish-trained Jamaica-trained, etc. NHL player.
Also I felt old when I realized those guys are seemingly too young to remember players like Mariusz Czerkawski
Friend of mine claims they have a standing invite from forsberg to stay at his house in Sweden whenever they want.
