Deontay Wilder fires co-trainer Mark Breland, who threw the towel in against Fury. It’ll be the Jay Deas show for the Bronze Bomber in December, for better or worse.
Yeah he has said he would not have thrown in the towel like Breland did which it 100% was the right move by Breland
Good ESPN+ card tonight. ESPN+, 7:30 pm ET, Jose Zepeda vs Ivan Baranchyk. Top five-ish guys at 140 matched against one another. They were supposed to fight in July, but Baranchyk had a minor injury and Zepeda fought Kendo Castaneda instead, winning but not really impressing in that bout. Baranchyk has one speed, which is full steam ahead, and Zepeda has shown gas tank and/or consistency issues in a few fights now. Should be an interesting fight. Gabriel Flores Jr, Guido Vianello, and other prospects are on the undercard. Jose Zepeda (32-2, 25 KO) vs Ivan Baranchyk (20-1, 13 KO), junior welterweights, 12 rounds Gabriel Flores Jr (18-0, 6 KO) vs Ryan Kielczewski (30-4, 11 KO), lightweights, 10 rounds Guido Vianello (7-0, 7 KO) vs Kingsley Ibeh (5-1, 4 KO), heavyweights, 6 rounds Duke Ragan (1-0, 1 KO) vs John Moraga (1-1, 1 KO), featherweights, 4 rounds Frevian Gonzalez (3-0, 1 KO) vs Carlos Marrero (2-3-1, 0 KO), junior lightweights, 4 rounds Mitchell Sipe (debut) vs Jimmy Barnes (1-0, 1 KO), heavyweights, 4 rounds Haven Brady Jr (debut) vs Gorwar Karyah (2-1, 2 KO), featherweights, 4 rounds JJ Mariano (2-0, 1 KO) vs Matthew Reed (1-0, 1 KO), welterweights, 4 rounds
Pretty decent ShoBox card on tonight. Conwell in the main event is legit. SHO, 9:00 pm ET, Charles Conwell vs Wendy Toussaint, Janelson Bocachica vs Nicklaus Flaz, Brandun Lee vs Jimmy Williams. It’s an unusual day for ShoBox, which usually runs on Fridays, and an earlier than normal start time. But basically nobody is watching Showtime boxing right now (Lubin-Gausha did 150K on 9/19), and nobody really watches ShoBox normally, to be honest, and I doubt it’s going to hurt the exposure to put this on Wednesday night. And it’s a nice little lineup, other than Lee’s fight is more end-of-run Friday Night Fights than on-paper stated purpose of ShoBox. Tonight at 9 pm ET live on Showtime, ShoBox: The New Generation returns with a tripleheader from the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn., headlined by a 10-round junior middleweight bout between unbeaten prospects Charles Conwell and Wendy Toussaint. Conwell, 22, was a U.S. Olympian in 2016, and is the more highly-regarded of the two prospects, but Toussaint, 28, is an interesting fighter himself, and could be a sleeper here. At 6’0”, Toussaint will have a notable height advantage, and the Haitian-American has looked like a patient, solid fighter thus far in his pro career, though he hasn’t faced much by way of competition. Conwell is a big step up for him. The show will also feature a pair of eight-round fights at welterweight. In one, Janelson Figueroa Bocachica, a 21-year-old from Detroit, will face 24-year-old Puerto Rican Nicklaus Flaz. In the TV opener, 21-year-old Brandun Lee, who headlined a ShoBox in March, will face 34-year-old veteran Jimmy Williams.
HOLD ON WE NEED A DISCUSSION HERE. SC Daniel Ocean southlick Am I the only one that didn't know this. We all know have seen this video before of James Butler hitting Richard Grant after the fight. Am I the only one that didn't know the same dude murdered Max Kellermans brother 3 years later?!?!
Okay glad I’m not the only one. Literally I was in shock. Max has basically never said anything I could find. There was a video him bring interviewed by Hot 97 at Pac Bradley and you can see how shook he was about it. also crazy max wrote this article about the punch at the time http://a.espncdn.com/boxing/columns/kellerman_max/1285976.html
His brother was roommate with the guy so I’ll assume he was a friend so that might color what he wrote in that article.
Yeah it seems like his brother took him in trying to help him get his career back on track. I would love to read a biography from max about this. Got to really fuck him up
Oct. 9: Las Vegas (ESPN) Emanuel Navarrete vs. Ruben Villa, 12 rounds, for the vacant WBO featherweight title Gonzalo Coria vs. Janibek Alimkhanuly, 10 rounds, middleweights Elvis Rodriguez vs. Cameron Krael, 8 rounds, junior welterweights Lorenzo Simpson vs. Sanny Duversonne, 8 rounds, middleweights Bryan Lua vs. Nelson Colon, 6 rounds, lightweights Steve Garagarza vs. Rashiem Jefferson, 4 rounds, featherweights Kahshad Elliott vs. Akeem Jackson, 4 rounds, junior middleweights
I am so torn on this. I am putting money on Teofimo and LSC and hoping one of the underdogs hit in the next 2 weeks
Santa Cruz is fighting Tank, right? I think he will out box him and is got a good enough chin. I think he takes that fight.
Same spot. I think Teofimo is a live, live dog but I’ve got too much respect for Loma’s skill level and experience to pull the trigger.
So excited for this. I think one of 2 things happen, and it's not exactly insightful, but either Loma can't handle Lopez's power, or Lopez can't handle Loma's speed/footwork. Loma usually takes a few rounds to figure his opponent out, then pours it on, becomes more active, throws more combos, and has more movement in the middle rounds. Against a power puncher like Lopez, that might be bad. If Lopez can touch him a few times early, it could change the fight. However, if Lopez can't get to Loma by round 3, and he allows Loma to come forward and apply pressure, I can see it going like the Loma-Walters fight, or just for reference the 2nd Fury-Wilder fight; a power puncher who can't connect becoming frustrated and out-boxed. I have to wonder how much better Lopez is than Linares or Nicholas Walters or Rigondeaux. Loma has made some of the top ranked p4p fighters at the time look silly. I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibilities that he does the same with Lopez. But I also don't think it's unreasonable to think Lopez is better than those guys and Loma will be fighting a much bigger guy and biting off more than he can chew. I do think Lopez might be a bit fragile mentally. All the stuff with his dad, and the fact that he keeps talking Loma down, saying he's not a god and all that. He's clearly aware of the mystique Loma brings. It's obviously in his head. If he gets in the ring and after seeing it first hand, starts to question himself, I can see him possibly falling apart a bit. Maybe? I have to take Loma. I hope Loma picks him apart and makes him look like an amateur and Lopez quits on his stool in the 9th. But at those odds I wouldn't mind putting some $ on Lopez.
And who made the thread title in the boxing thread that doesn't know how to spell the #1 P4P fighter's name??
Also, I did enjoy the blood sweat and tears series. I particularly liked seeing Lopez Sr. watching Loma fights, and point a few things out (when he throws that he moves left), then stand up from the laptop and say - ok, I got this guy figured out. Really? After watching a few clips you found the answer to beating Loma? Just like that???
Means if you bet on Lopez at +350, if he wins you win 350. If you bet Lomachenko at -425, you have to bet 425 to win 100
