Has anyone read these books by Stephen R. Donaldson? I started Lord Foul's Bane last night, which is the first book in the first trilogy. It's been sitting on my shelf for a couple years and I thought I'd finally give it a chance; I think I got it for maybe $2 at a used book store at some point. The reviews are . . . mixed, however. Curious if anyone has an opinion on the series. I'm hoping it's at least better than The Shadow of the Torturer, which I bought under similar conditions and couldn't get into at all.
The series was very hit and miss with me. I guess Covenant is interesting, but he is a complete scumbag at times. It also seems like his character development randomly changes without any real motivation behind it. Honestly, it was a pretty frustrating read in retrospect, but I finished it. So I guess that says something.
About 20% through. I will say the writing is very good. However, as alluded to above, Covenant just did something that I’m not sure how can be redeemed from.
