Fans will be so torn on benching Brees. So many still think he’s the Brees of 2011 or something, and they don’t like Jameis because they think he’s not the answer and he’ll throw picks. Maybe, but having a quarterback in the game that has a big arm and better mobility seems like the right move to me.
we started so damn slow (again) and every single DB is playing stupidly bad football right now (despite the great tackle to win it)
There are a lot of problems on defense. They gotta get that fixed because the offense started to get into a groove tonight. I don’t wanna say it, but this could be one of those situations like 2011 where our offense is stellar (it is each year) but the defense allows Alex Smith to drive up the field and have “the catch iii” with Vernon Davis.
Most optimistic take is that we’re paying for the lack of training camp/preseason and the defense will eventually get there.
Good teams find a way to win when and the Saints did after coming out the gate cold. Thomas comes back next week and hopefully that gives the boost we need. Not sure though.. as good as he is I’m wondering if he is one of those guys that is tolerated, but not exactly liked in the locker room. I have no clue, but he certainly comes across pretty bad sometimes
I’m still so perplexed by the decision to kick the game winner on first down to 1:40 left. Payton really could’ve bungled this whole season if Lutz missed that.
I will say the wins the last weeks are impressive. No Thomas or Sanders. Thomas just opens up the game plan so much. Hopefully he’s back soon
No idea why we'd kick it with that much time left. Unless he thought if we missed could possibly get it back and get another shot instead of a tie? or he just trusts Lutz that much and wanted to get out of the cold :: Not a pretty win, but anytime can go play in those conditions without any WRs and get a win I'll take it. I was hoping to go to this game pre-corona, but that would've been miserable 30 something degrees with 30 mph winds. Really hope we get Thomas, Sanders, and Callaway back next week.... and hope that somehow beyond all hope the Giants can win tonight.
Also - what was up with that forward progress call on the fumble... if the TE breaks out of that tackle and runs for a first down instead of fumbling it no way they bring it back to the spot of 'forward progress'. Dumb rule. Am I just being a homer or is that fucking dumb.
I kind of skimmed his post-game comments and didn't see him address it, but I suspect he just didn't think it all the way through. There's no reasonable explanation for not running the clock down, even though you have a very dependable kicker and very makeable yardage so chances of Lutz missing were probably around 5-10%
I felt we finally looked like a playoff-caliber team yesterday. The defense (secondary) needs a ton of work, but I loved seeing us constantly pressure Foles. If Davenport can come on, with Rankins and Hendrickson, then I’m happy as hell. The secondary though. Sheesh. It feels like the ghosts of Fred Thomas and Jason David back there sometimes. Anyone know the contract situation for those guys? I wonder if they will let Marcus Williams walk when his contract is up. Malcolm Jenkins still has great awareness, but Father Time is starting to affect I fear.
Wins a win, I don’t care about when we kicked or when we didn’t. Gotta get our skill guys back for next week. I really like the way our front 6/7 been playing lately. D-line consistently getting to the Quarterback. Davis excellent as always. Secondary is terrible and we gotta get better. I think Brees has played better since the first 3 games. No Taysom Hill in any possessions of consequence and a chance to get healthier and I like where were at.
I don't see how they can possibly bring Marcus back. He's been the worst back there this year imo. A lot of bad reads leading to big plays.
Didn't cost much, I assume he'll take Anzalone's snaps eventually - especially since Anzalone is due to get hurt soon.
I got an email from the Saints today that I won the ticket lottery to go to the 49ers game in a couple weeks. 6k fans at this game.
Pumped for tonight, but we don't have a lot going for us. Need Thomas to show up big time, need to really establish AK41 early and often
Should be a good game, going to be tough, but we can win if the defense doesn't shit the bed early. Also wearing color rush so that's a plus
Also, did anyone else see our D’s PFF grades?? Holy shit Anzalone ranked higher than Davis. Lattimore the fucking 90th best CB in the league
PFF had Marcus Williams as one of the best S last year. So I don’t put a ton of stock in their ratings. Also- who dat. Did not expect this game to go this way, everyone is playing well.
