When Nims said “Where everyone turned back, I want to be right there at 0100. The snow will be hard as concrete”
It’s on Tubi, which is a free app. It just has ads, but it’s legit. Edit: I don’t work for Tubi, more people should just know about it. Wildly good movie selection to watch for free
there’s and app called JustWatch tells you what platforms have shows for free or cheapest. Fubo is free for Meru. Dawn wall is another good one, not currently free.
I always think when watching these docs that while it’s mind-blowingly impressive that these guys get to the top of these mountains, it seems just as dangerous going down but they almost never mention it. I know often they’ll rappel down but having slipped my share times hiking on snowy downhill trails this gives me just as much anxiety
Newest reel rock looks awesome. Got barefoot Charles, bae Alex Johnson and the wide boyz. Honestly I might be least excited for Honnold and Calfwell’s piece.
Squamish, BC -- where he is in the beginning of the movie -- is a wild and crazy place. Have been a few times. Gorgeous but the party scene is out of control. Nodded my head when he was giving the interview towards the beginning, "most of my friends liked to take a tab of acid and go party. I would rather take like 6 tabs and disappear for like 20 hours."
Watched the Alpinist followed by 14 peaks the other day and that was a little bit of a roller coaster.
With a kid and yes. He was out in red rocks the other day traversing the calicos. Nothing like soloing free rider, half dome, Astro man, etc, but still had to down climb terrain everyone here would poop their pants trying to climb up solo.
I watched it with my son who loves to herp and loves watching Alex. It was good for us but not great overall. Pretty short so worth the watch IMO. Even if only for Bruce, the biologist. Spoiler They fail both main goals. Get the old biologist (love Bruce btw) up on the face. Find new Frog species on top. They find tadpoles but not the frog.
Uncomfortable bump. Just watched the river runner. Not related, but in the same extreme sports space. Great doc
every time this is bumped I’m certain he’s fallen to his death. keep pissing in your bedside chalice, king!
i was gonna post this and get peoples thoughts. I didn’t like this at all. Of course Magnus is an adult and can make his own decisions but it felt like Honnold really undersold a few technical sections. Like what if Magnus couldn’t crack climb when they got to that section? I was more nervous watching this than free solo. It just felt super irresponsible by Honnold. To do it as an onsight seemed really dumb.
given that they had climbed together before and Alex likely has a decent understanding of Magnus' abilities, I felt it was somewhat reasonable. can see both sides of the argument.
That was insane. Great 30min watch. The calmness of Alex compared to feeling how scared Magnus was was nuts.
The way he just so casually works in the phrase "then you'd die" with the same caution as if he's saying "you might get a splinter" is hilarious. also, was he just eating a bell pepper like it was an apple?
“Man, this is really slippery. I don’t like this.” -“Oh yeah, I forgot. But slippery is good because you’re forced to focus so you don’t die. Plus it’s all solid. No loose holds.” “Uh, I just had a super loose hold and almost plummeted to my death, Alex.” -“You should wear a GoPro.”
