While this thread is bumped: Larin scored on his debut for Besiktas last weekend. Cavallini continues to score for Puebla in Liga MX.
I'm sitting on a train to Ottawa so why not take the time to complete a much waited analysis on the state of the National Team. Attackers Our deepest area by far. In true little brother fashion I'd argue that you could put our group of attackers over the US'. Lucas Cavallini - FW - 9 goals in 16 appearances in Liga MX this season. Cyle Larin - FW - waiting to breakthrough with Besiktas but scored in his first appearance. Doesn't play well for the national team however. Junior Hoilett - W - Cardiff's player of the season and one of the best players in the Championships. Very talented and finally seems to be playing with more consistency. Alphonso Davies - W/M - still only 17 but the Whitecaps' best player. Should move to Europe in the winter window. Ballou Tabla - W - 19 yrs old and bought by Barca B. May never play for us unfortunately. Anthony Jackson-Hamel - improving MLS striker for the Impact. Tossaint Ricketts - FW - a decent backup option but nothing more than that. Liam Miller - FW- Liverpool academy player who is highly thought of. Still a longshot to make the first team but setting himself up for a nice career. Got his first cap and played well. Jordan Hamilton - FW - finally getting some minutes with TFC. One to watch for the future. Midfielders Much better than it has been but Atiba getting old will leave a void. Scott Arfield - our best player since joining the team. Moving to Rangers next season. Atiba Hutchinson - Besiktas club legend but it seems his age has caught up to him this season. Still worth keeping around. David Wotherspoon - St. Johnstone player who Arfield convinced to join. Good option to have. Mark-Anthony Kaye - has blossomed with LAFC in his first MLS season. Jonathan Osorio - taken the next step with TFC this year, scoring a bunch of goals. Marcus Godinho - broke into the Hearts first team before getting hurt. Can also play fullback. Samuel Piette - Pure defensive mid who joined the Impact last season. Probably not international quality but we don't have many options. Raheem Edwards - versatile player who can play fullback, midfield, winger. Jay Chapman - tidy midfielder for TFC but needs more minutes. Kianz Froese - trying to breakthrough at Fortuna Dusseldorf but unlikely to as they got promoted to the Bundesliga. Defenders and Keepers Our weakest area by far. Dejan Jakovic - CB for LAFC but arguably not even MLS starter quality. Manjrekar James - plays in Hungary. No idea how he's doing but does well enough for the national team. Derek Cornelius - starts in the Serbian top flight but not much is known about him. Got his first cap recently. Michael Petrasso - came back to MLS from the QPR reserves but isn't getting much playing time. David Edgar - mainstay on the national team but is playing in the USL now. Marcel De Jong - decent fullback option who plays for the Whitecaps. Doneil Henry - once a promising prospect he's been decimated by injuries and is now on loan in the USL. Ashtone Morgan - somehow still on TFC but isn't that good. Sam Adekugbe - young fullback playing in Norway. Milan Borjan - solid keeper. Not much else to say. Players we need to Cap Ricardo Ferreira - CB for Braga. Canadian raised. Called up to Portugal but got hurt and thus couldn't go. We need him for the next cycle. Tabla - mentioned above. Fikayo Tomori - born in Calgary and raised in England. On loan at Hull. Unlikely yo be good enough for England so please commit to us. Ayo Akinola - regardless of if he pans out I'd like to have a player raised in Canada play for us. Prognosis 2022 is our best chance to qualify in recent memory. If we don't at least make the Hex it will be a massive disappointment.
18 yr old Jonathan David from Ottawa scored on his debut for Gent in the Belgian league. The goal tied the game in stoppage time.
A few years ago I thought there must be some interesting reason Gent’s crest is a Native American in headdress. Nope. They just thought it looked cool. A place with such a rich history shouldn’t be ripping off The America’s. If it were me, I’d put a Catholic in exile on the crest.
We somehow stumbled into having great striker depth with Larin, Cavallani, and now David looking legit.
Uhhh so David with two goals again today. He's now scored all of his goals from sub-appearances, so 4 goals in 63 minutes of play.
https://cc.sporttube.com/embed/VJPCCCG/no-preload David scores again in his first league start. 4 goals in 4 appearances in the league + 2 Europa league goals.
Nice to see David get the call up. Coached against him for 4 years when he was younger. Tabla is next.
Really hope we can get this guy http://www.thehardtackle.com/news/2...a-manchester-city-tracking-stephen-eustaquio/
Banner weekend for Canadians: - Davies debut - Marcus Godinho with his first goal for Hearts - Jonathan David has scored for Gent (game is still in-progress) - Cavallini scored for Puebla - Simeon Jackson scored - Scott Arfield two assists
Getting a lot bigger now that he’s at Bayern. Larin actually doesn’t play well for the national team. He’s definitely behind Cavallini right now and you could argue Jonathan David has passed him already.
Jonathan David with two goals for Gent today, including the stoppage time winner. 10 goals on the season!
David with a beautiful goal and assist 25 mins into the match against Cercle Brugge. This is trending to be his last season in Belgium. Davies and Cavallini scored earlier this weekend so a good weekend for Canadian forwards.
