In early access, so it’s still buggy as shit. Turn based combat on the D&D 5e ruleset. About an hour in and it’s got major Divinity: Original Sin 2 vibes (same studio did both).
My wife and I tried playing it Tuesday and it was a bit annoying because she would start a conversation and I would have to go to her and click on them talking. We decided to restart separately and play at our own pace, and then restart together after we play it through. It’s enjoyable, and I think the replayability will be great to add to the cycle of games right now.
I made it past the first area and got my first companion, and already had my first team wipe. Oops. I restarted as a ranking fighter instead of my squishy wizard build
Same fight, this time with 3 party members, still TPK. Oops! 2 in the party got one shot critted. Game is brutal if you’re unlucky.
I was looking at this over the weekend, I have no DND experience, but am interested in it - how's the learning curve?
very beginner friendly. It's in early access so it's not perfect right now. It's hard and as of last week they hadn't added difficulty settings, so be prepared to die.
I'm a moron and just realized you can use the help action to bring a fallen teammate up from 0 HP. I am so dumb. Well game just got 50% easier.
they said there’s a quest where you can deliberately choose to turn your character into a walking talking wheel of cheese for the rest of the game I cannot wait to find said quest
Game is going to be amazing. Haven’t played since early, early open access so I didn’t get sick of it
Decided to buy the game yesterday on steam to try the early access fuck this game is going to be so good
Feels clunky. Screen scroll on movements stops a lot and I have to click-drag to get it going again. Would like to be able to click to move on the map. Is there a way to highlight interactive objects? Seems I spend way more time moving around and interacting than I do in combat.
hold left alt i've only used wasd for camera movement so i'm not sure. the only time my camera has trouble moving is when it gets out of range of party or stuck on terrain. think of the camera as a physical object and that should help a bit. yes, the game is designed for you to get through most all of it with no combat. if you fight everyone you run into then there's a lot of combat.
It’s tough for me to use wasd with my arthritis so was hoping with click to move I wouldn’t have to deal with it. Wasn’t prepared to have to use it for camera :( I should have just waited for PlayStation release :)
Really? Thewireamazed.gif I gave up pc gaming a while ago. I really only play Civ6 anymore. I have just been itching to play this for soooooooo long.
well we're still a few weeks from the full release and i don't believe progress will carry over. that should give you enough time to mess around with stuff and find a setup that works for you. anecdotally in civ i use screen scrolling mostly but that does honestly sounds like a headache here considering the camera does seem to have some physical properties that will get caught on terrain. what i remember from my limited time playing dos2 on console before building a pc, larian does a really fantastic job with controller support.
I was getting a new phone the other day and I hear the worker helping me say "I'll just pretend like I didn't see this message." When I looked to see, I saw a message from TrustyPatches that said "I just want to fuck a bear."
Can you still create a character and choose your own alignment? Whether that be lawful good, chaotic evil, or anything in between? Or is that kind of baked into the classes at this point?
d&d doesn't really have alignment anymore for player characters. and bg3 doesn't really have right or wrong, just choices that impact how the game world reacts to you. if you choose to be evil, it will react that way. there is a character origin that adds a lot of additional evil options but you can always choose to repress it. that's the closest thing to alignment that's part of character creation rather than character actions.
did you see the recent twitter drama from industry devs talking about bg3? it's both sad and hilarious.
"it's an anomaly. this shouldn't set a new standard. we can't possibly be expected to compete with that kind of quality." here's a short vid that covers a lot of it.
These two weeks are going to drag Can’t wait. Thinking of playing as a female Drow on my first run if I go created character or The Dark Urge if I go with an origin
first thing i'll do is install the mod for increased party size then i'll make the correct decision of playing some nonsense build that is proficient in everything and irrelevant in combat. maybe dark urge, maybe not. probably would repress it if i did.
probably gonna spend this weekend playing around with classes and to decide which one I want to play as
as someone who is intimately familiar with dnd 5e i don't really have to wonder what i want to play. i have however learned a few things about bg3 that could influence character creation for convenience purposes.
from what i've learned so far you're probably going to want to do most conversations with the main character so it should probably be a charisma based class. paladin, warlock, sorcerer, bard. i'm currently kind of leaning towards paladin because charisma determines buy/sell prices and the paladin is the only charisma class that also wants strength (which means more carry weight). couple of times in the beta i've stood next to a vendor while moving all of my shit from other characters to my main. would have taken a lot less time if it had more strength. but also that's really all that strength does.
rogue's typically take the same party slot as a ranger or bard. so you can easily just not use a rogue at all. they aren't inherently more stealthy than a ranger or bard with stealth expertise. could do bard or ranger then pick up a single level of rogue at some point for easy theives tools proficiency.
I played ranger in early access and in DOS2 and got tired of constantly having to move my character to higher ground to be effective. Might try out bard or paladin this weekend, maybe both
interestingly, rangers in 5e are tied for 2nd highest hp so they can be played melee whether thats two hand, sword and board, or dual wield. they are wisdom based though, so you don't get the same charisma as you would from a bard. also i haven't found myself NEEDING to get high ground for ranged attacks like i did is dos, but it helps for sure.
