I don't know about definitive, but fomite (a word I definitely knew before one of our smarties used it here) transmission seems to be a pretty minor thing... I've definitely weakened my posture from that point of view but I also live in a relatively lesser impacted area. pperc RonBurgundy
Have there really been people who got sick from not wiping down mail and groceries? That seems excessive
In the multitude of shitty things that have been done, this ranks up there in the top tier of truly shitty.
Jesus I knew the situation for testing was bad but Fuck this government for this hellstorm. They only have rapid tests for ICU patients and normal test for inpatient. I'll have to go to a drive thru test site tomorrow. This downtown UAB ER Fuck this God damned country and Fuck the jokes in the government they've fucked everyone
Hypothetically, I've just gone to the grocery store, I buy a Party Size package of Oreos for my two-person household. I come home, put the Oreos away, and wash my hands. Now what if I want some of those Oreos? Or am I supposed to wait a certain amount of time? Or am I supposed to open the package with one hand and extract an Oreo with the other? This is why I still wipe my goods, especially ones that go into the freezer, OR put dry goods in a quarantine closet for 2 or 3 days.
So you're saying that maybe it wasn't the best idea to eat half a bag of Lays Philly Cheesesteak chips on the drive home from the supermarket yesterday?
I know campuses are going mostly remote. But there are bound to be tons of college kids moving into Boston in the next four weeks. Scary
Ugh. A lot of this happening I'm sure, more than normal. Did the family lose their jobs due to covid? That dudes owns a lot of property: https://www.elyedwards.com/
Update Neighbor died this afternoon, wife is now showing signs after being asymptomatic. Fever, nausea and the such. Entire family has now tested positive, including 3 children from 28-38 and several grandchildren from 8 months to 12 years. Wife and I have to be tested tomorrow because we were around the grand-kids, but the way tests are around this hellhole if will be weeks before results and even then its probably 50/50. None of us has shown symptoms yet. Fuck Florida.
It's hard to believe West Virginia's impending COVID disaster is all because people couldn't resist vacationing to Myrtle Beach and Florida. Can you imagine?
Yes "mandate" (toothless) restaurants are open. (Reduced capacity) Our disaster has been years in the making. There are literally THOUSANDS of grandparents that are raising their grandchildren because the parents are dead due to the opioid epidemic. When school opens up, those children are going to bring it home to Mawmaw and Pawpaw. Our local Head of the Health department called it a "red carpet for death"
from a trumptard friend of mine: What do you believe the reason is for the US having such an incredibly low mortality rate as a % of cases For example Italy’s mortality rate is almost 5 times higher than the US. That’s not to mention that multiple examples of antibody test research is now indicating that our positive cases are higher than published by a power of 10. Are we better at treating covid and helping patients recover? Are our testing capabilities so much superior that we are able to identify more cases in the population, driving out denominator higher? Are we a healthier population? Have we implemented measures as a country to protect our most vulnerable better than our peer countries? I’m just curious how you are reconciling the enormous gap in statistics, or if you chalk this one up as the one you don’t like to talk about because you’ve convinced yourself that it’s not significant.
We're 5% of the world pop. and we have ~25% of deaths. What more do you need to know? https://www.ft.com/content/a2901ce8-5eb7-4633-b89c-cbdf5b386938
All of those are possibilities. He left one out. We are significantly undercounting deaths due to Covid and calling them pneumonia, particularly early on in the outbreak. You don't need to invoke Italy though. Just look at New York, PA, Mass vs. Florida death rates.
So...Iowa's gov said that if 50% of students aren't in person, the days will not count. A few districts are telling her to go fuck herself and that they'll control their district. She's now saying that any school that goes 50% virtual without permission from the state will be forced to make up those days in person and administrators will face licensure discipline. This sets up to be a legal battle. Also, this is as close someone has gotten to asking "how many deaths are acceptible?" and it produced a predictable reaction.
if we’re talking deaths divided by positive cases then Italy’s denominator is much smaller because they got a handle on the virus. That makes their mortality rate seem worse than it is compared to the U.S. So those questions are actually non sequiturs. meanwhile the US’s deaths per million is slowly but surely catching up to them. 582 deaths per million vs 485
I actually think it’s Desantis every single time I see him tweet which is ironic because he’s usually tweeting about Desantis.
