Searched the first 10 pages and found a sci-fi, a24, movie pass, and other threads but not one for general discussion and movie news.

Does anyone have a blog or critic they like to read? Looking to read after writing my own thoughts on a movie to see how they compare.

Watched Sound of Metal a few days ago - highly recommend and amazing performances by Ahmed and the supporting cast, who I learned are all deaf actors.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom - 87/ 100. Chadwick Boseman's performance is haunting, for lack of a better term, considering the context of his death and what he was going through during filming. Bonus points for being 90 minutes. Obviously a play adaptation, so it was refreshing and different from what I normally watch.
Selma - 84/100. Does what it can, but limited by the challenge of trying to depict the larger than life figure of Dr. King.
Hot Fuzz - 86/100. A classic buddy cop movie, with plenty of references to the past and inspiring plenty of future references. Drags a bit at the start of act 3. gets funnier each viewing.

    Coming 2 America

    Seen this year:

    The Philadelphia Story: 85/100
    - Three legends in Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart. Grant is my favorite actor of that era. Entertaining movie from 1940.

First Blood: 78/100 - Best Rambo to me because it has a good story and it’s just a true popcorn action flick. Stallone is more humanized in this movie than the sequels.

    Anything for Jackson: 8/10
Horror flick with some good jump scares, nice VFX, decent story, and pretty funny in spots. Kind of like Fargo for horror movies but without the all-star cast.

    Phenomenal movie.

Too many 'lefts' and 'rights' not enough 'ports' and 'starboards'. It was a kickass movie though, Mad Max Fury Road in the North Atlantic. I'm fascinated by the Atlantic theater and I was very hyped to see this movie and it completely delivered. .

It's not into Tombstone or Roadhouse territory but it's definitely one of those that is constantly sneaking up on you when you are least expecting it and you still commit to re-watching. Kudos to all involved in that film - especially Howie Long.

had never seen Do The Right Thing. Loved it. What a beautiful depiction of 1980s Bed Stuy that shows how quickly racial resentment and violence escalates. The costuming, music, cast are all perfect. It's frustrating to see how a movie with a social message made 30 years ago is equally as applicable today.
