Also did Spoiler Draconus just not care about the end of the world at all? Wtf? Not important enough?
Just jumped on this thread for the first time in two years, and I have enjoyed the shit of the last hour reading this thread from pages 8-18 and seeing y'alls reactions to new books/chapters/events, etc. Thanks everyone, particularly Irush and RonBurgundy. I'll be back in a few days after I finish Kellanved's Reach.
Ok been slow going the last few days but God damn this shit it’s wild. Spoiler Commander Grub. Karsa’s bitch slapping Fener to death from another continent
I'm listening to a really bad fantasy audiobook so I can talk shit about how much it sucks in comparison, then re-read Dune in April.
Ok Loved this series. Felt like it lagged at times and some plots were introduced for seemingly no reason but still. The characters and the style choices he made to make it like a tv series jumping from scene to scene. Loved that shit. Epilogue almost had me crying in the coffee shop I finished the book in this morning. Top ten characters 1. Fid 2. Rake 3. Tehol 4. Cutter 5. Karsa 6. Bottle 7. Ganoes 8. Quick Ben 9. Trull 10. Brys Honorable mentions to Shadowthrone, Bugg and Helian. Fuck can’t forget Tool. Too many good characters
He had written 2 books of a trilogy on the Tiste people (Kharkanas Trilogy) and is working on the Kara’s trilogy right now. In a month the 3rd book of Esselmont’s trilogy on the backstory of Kellanved and Dancer comes out. First two books were phenomenal. Easily Esselmont’s best work.
I really enjoyed them, but they’re dense. Seems like most people were more along your line of thinking, hence the postponement of the final installation.
You’ve reached the pinnacle. There is nothing else as good as this. Maybe Stormlight eventually but it’s a completely different feel
There is more Malazan to read, but I’ve mentioned that a bunch of times before, I’m guessing you need a break?
I am interested I’m just worried it’s gonna make me want more of the marines and the darujhistan people
Novels of the Malazan Empire are in blue at the top. Night of Knives is the night that Surly betrays Dancer and Kellanved Return of the Crimson Guard takes place between Reaper's Gale and Toll the Hounds and features the return of the Crimson Guard as well as some Malazan OGs Stoneweilder features more Crimson Guarders as well as Greymane Orb Sceptre Throne will take you back to your beloved Darujistan and K'rul's Bar Blood and Bone and Assail both take place after The Crippled God. Former takes place largely in Jackuruku in Ardata's Jungle. Latter in Assail, like it states. These are all written by Ian C. Esselmont, who isn't quite as great of a writer as Erikson, but still very good and he gets stronger as he goes along. He isn't just some random guy writing books that were eventually brought into cannon either. He co-created the entire world and gamed the story with Erikson.
There may be some relevant info you will be missing from RotCG and OST if you skip them. I honestly can’t remember.
I did say that. Just read all of them, sheesh. Look at the dramatis personae for Return of the Crimson Guard too.
I would read them in order. Definitely at least start with RotCG. There’s a plot point in there I’m stunned wasn’t in the main series. I’m curious as to whether you even realized it happened.
The most important thing about the ICE books is to remember he’s not Erikson. They have strengths, can be enjoyable, but the writing quality just isn’t the same. His new books have been his strongest, though. He’s getting better as he goes.
