The Wheel of Time

Read the whole thing. It starts out great, then gets way too complex around book 7, but it gets better by book 10 as he starts to wrap up the series.

Too bad Jordan died last year. I hear someone has taken his unpublished work and notes and will finish the series for him.

I was very into the series, but then probably about book 7 it became less interesting/boring...something. Been too long now, would probably have to start all over from book 1.

 

What's it about? About how long is each book?

 

I really like this series, started reading it in high school and enjoyed it. Last one I read was Winter's Heart I think and that was years ago, I should catch up on this.

 

I have read the books twice. I agree thy in the middle of the series it gets lost a bit, but it comes back strong. Easily one of my favorite series. It is very complex reading from the standpoint that he introduces so many characters and there are long stretches between some being discussed. If you enjoy fantasy books, only the Lord of the Rings is probably on this level.

As far as Jordans death goes, he had dictated detailed notes on how to finish the series and his wife has been his editor throughout. She hand picked the author to finish his books, so my guess is that there won't be much dropoff. The big challenge will be wrapping up the 100s of story arcs. They originally were going to do this with one final book, but now the book is being split into a trilogy with the first to be released in November. Looks like another 2500 pages to go along with the 10000 or so in the original books.

 

Good to hear NYGator. I wasn't aware of his wife's involvement, and I was afraid his notes weren't all that since his death was kinda sudden--heart attack, right?

On March 23, 2006, Jordan disclosed in a statement[4] that he had been diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis, and that with treatment, his median life expectancy was four years, though he said he intended to beat the statistics. He later posted on his Dragonmount blog to encourage his fans not to worry about him and that he intended to have a long and fully creative life, working for another 30 years.

He began chemotherapy treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in early April 2006.[5] Jordan was enrolled in a study using the drug Revlimid just approved for multiple myeloma but not yet tested on primary amyloidosis.

Jordan died at approximately 2:45 p.m. EDT on September 16, 2007,[6] and a funeral service was held for him on Wednesday, September 19, 2007. [7] His life will be subject of the feature length documentary The Wit of the Staircase: The Life and Works of Robert Jordan. [8] Jordan was cremated and his ashes buried at an Episcopal church plot somewhere outside Charleston, the exact location left undisclosed by the family.

 

I must have heard "cardiac" back then and assumed heart attack. Thanks for the info.
