Its a bad thing because this was probably your best shot to try to be actually great. To be the biggest and best name in wrestling. Also to become wildly rich. Don't know what they'll get paid in AEW but I assume its nowhere near what they'd make in WWE.
getting paid a lot of money while being fulfilled creatively seems like a pretty sweet deal to me, I don't see why it's sad to take a chance on yourself and potentially build something, the fact that it may fail in the long run is irrelevant and I'd imagine they'd have no regrets if it does
They're backed by a billionare, they're getting paid just fine. And your definition of great isn't everyone's. Not to mention, you could argue they already are some of the biggest names in wrestling, if they're are to create something like this without needing to piggy back of previous WWE success.
Iirc, there were reports of AEW throwing around 3-5 million dollar offers, which is top level WWE money. Outside of a Cena or someone making money from other things outside performing.
They aren't the biggest names in wrestling, not even close. They are to us, but the casual fan doesn't watch Wrestle Kingdom or search out ROH. No matter how you slice it, they're going to be the minor leagues. I don't blame Cody as much, he already took his swing in WWE. Shit AJ Styles himself gave an interview about finally coming to WWE and how he would rationalize never going to WWE but knew that in order to see if he could be the best in the world, he had to give it a go.
Haha, this thread bitches constantly about how bad WWE programming and how much they misuse talent but still want everyone to go there. Just be excited that you will have an alternative product to watch. Even if it never reaches true competitor level with WWE, doesn't mean it isn't successful or won't be entertaining.
Legitimately though who is Kenny Omega going to wrestle? WWE has taken up almost all of the Indy stars and I doubt NJPW is going to send their guys over? Will AEW poach from LU?
I'd guess Cody vs. Kenny will be the first big program. I read that they won't be doing the typical heel vs. face format and want to have feuds with fans on both sides, similar to real sports.
I mean, they’ve been around less than two weeks, give them a chance to build a roster. Everything they’ve said publicly and the moves they’ve made leans towards a product built around making a fun wrestling show.
I sometimes wonder about stuff like this. Do wrestlers plan on talking shit to each other on social media? Like did char post this pick specifically for Becky to roast her? Did Becky see her backstage and say hey char, I’m going to talk some shit to you later tonight? Do they plan things like this or have they all just been in the business long enough that they know how it works. I more often wonder this when it’s wrestlers from different federations
But if he did that everyone would say that it was probably not that smart of a decision too is what I’m getting at
I don’t want to shit on AEW because if we can see a promotion become WCW to the WWE that’s great all around. It forces Vince to allow his roster more say in the presentation. Hell if you watched both RAW and Smackdown it felt like some of the promos where definitely less Vince and creative and more the talent. You even see them start both shows differently. Small changes but changes none the less. After watching the presser I can’t help to feel like AEW at the moment is more ROH vs WCW. Hopefully in time and maybe with Turner doing some or most production that changes. The venues they book will also be important. You can be going live in front of 800 to 1,200 a week. Comes off small scale. Curious what the backlash is like when they start producing shit storylines. As a greedy WWE mark I rather these guys be in WWE but I respect that there out taking a risk.
I’d just be happy if they were indeed ecw from 96-99. ECW gave Vince the blueprint for the attitude era
think one of my favorite shticks itt is how we all fight for imaginary ownership of any hot thing that comes through
ahh geez this poor top rope spot just isn't meant to be, what a shame, this match had like 3 climaxes and deserved to go out with whatever they had planned good stuff though
it's funny, saw a thumbnail on my youtube feed for a match with Walt vs Ospreay earlier today and thought to myself "what the fuck's a Walt," and then lo and behold here he is
It will never not make me shake my head when the champion isn’t the last one out to the ring for a championship match
