I don't know poker but legend has there is a guy on TMB with a full proof system for winning untold riches on the roulette wheel
Speak of the devil, saw this today: https://www.wired.com/2017/02/libratus/ I enjoy playing as well, but the best tip I can offer is to gain experience and play, play, play.
I play poker all the time and have won thousands of dollars doing so. What do you want to know? Spoiler I never play and, when I do, almost always lose. What a fantastic "bluff" I have pulled on you!
Learn the statistics. Look up a chart for opening hand suggested plays. Be very patient. Folding is fine.
I play almost daily online. I'm not good, but I'm not bad. Start with quality hands. Use your position to your advantage. Pay attention to who's the dumbass(S). Be patient and tell yourself there are better hands ahead. Example: If you have two pair on the flop be aware of trips or draws. Don't get sucked in. Better hands ahead...just keep telling yourself that.
This is my issue. I play well for an hour or so. Then I get bored and start making dumb and risky moves.
- Play the opposite of how the rest of the table is playing. Early on, don't be afraid to make a few questionable calls or bluffs for smaller pots just to get a gauge of how aggressively the table is playing. - Understand the level of opponent you're playing and adjust your play accordingly. Bluffs, hero calls, etc. are almost worthless against people who aren't very good. Generally, it's better to be more conservative the lower the skill level of your opponents. - Don't get too adventurous with starting hands unless you know what you're doing. The more middling the hand you start with, the tougher the decisions you have to make late.
Pretty sure that's the book I got from my dad when I played before online poker was nuked by Bush. Made a couple hundred.
It is but Sklansky's book I'm talking about is specific to Texas Holdem for small stakes as I assume that's what the OP is playing
be yourself, don't try to take on some ridiculous table persona. don't play A-B-C poker. trust your gut. you'll learn the most from the hands you lose
Until the UIGEA is amended or repealed, it's going to be up to individual states to sanction online rooms. :-(
In a live game quote Rounders a ton and especially KGB in a Russian accent. The whole table will love it.
I played for the first time in 5 or 6 years in a casino this past weekend. Anyways an Asian guy sits down next to me while we're waiting for a dealer to start. I'm not kidding, guy is wearing sunglasses and streaming some poker video of like Phil hellmuth in the wsop. I'm just like.... Man this is a $1/$2 table. He turns out to be obnoxious, complains to the dealer that he missed a check call and says he'd be fired if this was "commerce". I guess that's another casino. He talks about his bankroll going between 250k and 800k, and that he won 300k in Florida in a bad beat jackpot. For what it's worth he lost about 300 on the hour I played.
Don't chase and just grind. There is always a couple impatient folks at the table who chase hands. Their chips will be yours eventually if your patient. If you slow play and grind the chips will start easing your way.
I paid for my first car playing 5/10 limit hold em on poker stars in 2005. Had a summer job as a lifeguard and halfway through convinced my parents to let me quit because I was making more playing online poker. Have tried to play a little online since then but people are too good now. There are bros playing 15 hours a day, ten tables at a time. It's the same as DFS-impossible to win in the long run
I'm a patient grinder, and have always done well with this in live cash and tournament games. Ill fold unless I get AA, KK, QQ, AK pre flop...it takes discipline to fold decent hands, but it works in the end....once you win two or three hands with high trips you can start bluffing now because you have shown yourself to be a straight up "wait for the great hand" player. Good luck sir
