If you have the cash, it's a great bike. Would be a nice upgrade and you'd find a lot more bang for your effort (responsiveness, speed, going up hill). If you're serious about riding I bet you won't regret a capable bike like that. It's a lot of bike for $2k. Probably worth the money is what I'm saying.
Thanks, the LBS I bought it from said he was going to call me later so I’m hoping he might do some kind of trade-in.
If you can swing it, two bikes is way better than one! It’ll only increase your odds of riding. Maybe throw some fenders on the Sirrus and have it be your rainy weather ride, etc
Any recommendations on tires for an old trek hybrid? I'm trying to keep the bike going and mainly pull the kids in a trailer/ride on paved and relatively well maintained gravel trails. I don't need anything crazy but am overwhelmed with options.
Schwalbe Marathon would be my rec. Marathon + are even more puncture resistant. The pluses have a reflective stripe too. I use the studded version on my winter bike.
After some delays due to some missing and/or faulty components in my training ecosystem I finally got my first 2 rides in yesterday. Nothing major at all. Just a 30 minute ride to attempt to establish zones and the most reduced version of an ftp test I could find, 1 made it a whole 10 minutes before my legs fell off. But a handful of things happened. 1. I am now set to jump on and ride at any time. No more delays. 2. I have a rough idea of my baseline fitness level so I can start training. 3. I got the best sleep I have had in months. In addition, I woke up with the lowest amount of stress levels I have had in months as well. As a side note, I am amazed at Garmin’s advancements in tracking fitness in even the past 4 years. The data they can now pull with their fitness watches is incredible. And I found my dream bike for sale on TPC. New and discounted. I wish it was a year further down the road. If I stay on the bike for a year with no signs of slowing down, the equivalent of this will be mine. But first things first. I need to stay on the trainer for 2 months straight to justify the purchase of a gravel bike. Then I will get some events under my belt and make my dream happen. https://www.theproscloset.com/products/2022-mosaic-gt2-45-di2-tan-52cm
For me it is the thing that I feel safer doing than “sharing” the roads with autos anymore in the DFW area.
In the middle of a 75 miler at the moment. We’re 30 miles deep and have met three cars in se Minnesota
Holy crud that was fun. Route only turned out to be 69 miles (nice). And after five miles I had to reset my Garmin because I had the wrong settings. Any old how I’m getting hooked on gravel riding quickly. There are such few hills in the MPLS area and I feel like I know them all. Getting out in the rural rolling hills is just a totally different mindset. Pictured are my bro and his lifelong bud
I bought a marlin 6 for my twelve-year-old, and I have a rockhopper expert on order for me. I can't imagine us doing anything super technical so should be perfect. Commute + light trails. Tsali is probably as crazy as we'd get. I'm excited!
Finally got my workbench set back up after moving. It’s not near finished yet, but at least I can wrench again. Did a complete tear down, cleaning, and rebuild of my road bike over the weekend. Still waiting on a new bottom bracket I ordered from Cane Creek, but I forgot how much I love working on bikes. You can also see part of my new gravel bike hanging on the wall.
Picked it up today and did an hour ride around our neighborhood this afternoon. Some pretty decent hills. Enough to make my legs jelly.
Went over the 100 mile mark today. All around our surrounding neighborhoods. We’ve found a ~5.5 mi loop with ~350 ft of elevation change that we like. Have been doing this loop 1-3 laps a few times a week. 3 laps destroys me. Going to do our first greenway ride this weekend. Longer but not much elevation.
Had ridden an old steel frame Bianchi and Gary Fisher MTB from early 2000s to the late 2010s when I had a landlord steal both my bikes when I was gone on vacation one weekend. Got a chance to test ride a 2022 Giant Defy and fell in love. Never knew how comfortable a carbon frame could be. Mowing the yard, then taking it for a spin again. Will be test riding until Friday when I’ll swap it out for a Giant Contend (the aluminum version of the Defy)
Jason Schmidt was his name. Bay Area, I believe. Rented to me when I lived in Tahoe. Forgive the dirty garage
I was out for a casual ride in the rain last night. I was on a bike path separate from the street. Dont know what the hell I was thinking but I wandered into the street out of turn. Traffic was BARRELING down and I narrowly got through. Was almost smeared and it woulda been all my fault. I call out inattentive drivers but boy was I inattentive in the rain last night.
I bumped up my monthly mileage goal this year. Sure did t expect to get it in February. Basically we didn’t have winter this year so I’ve been riding like it’s October, more or less.
I’ve been awful during the winter but am taking my bikes to the shop to get tuned up for the spring. What’re you riding these days?
Welp I just did a fat bike race this morning astride my Giant Yukon fat bike on the same course a cross country skiing World Cup event was held in Minneapolis a few weeks ago. Then my other winter bike is a belt drive commuter (Marin Presidio 3) that I mount studded tires on. It’s not fast but is good on ice and its drivetrain and internal hub don’t get all gummed up from road grit. I don’t ride my road bikes or mtb this time of year for all the damn road salt around here. It’s a scourge I tell ya!
