Thanks. Minnesota can now clinch the B1G Title with a sweep over Wisconsin next weekend (we are off this weekend).
Considering attendance at the Kohl Center and the opponent, this was a bold choice of game to try to pull this off.
Snuggerud and Knies each took a 5 minute major on the same play. Gophers gave up 2 to go down 0-2. It was the only 2 OSU goals in the weekend. This was a beaut.
Nanooks may actually do it and make the tourney. Are up to #12 in RPI and the Pairwise. Won 9 of their last 10 and 15 of their last 18.
I feel like the bubble/worrying about tournament upsets is usually at about 13 so if you can stay there the next few weeks it’s a good spot to be in.
Sudden death tournaments scare the hell out of me but I’m very excited heading in to March. I feel like this is the best Gopher team in the last 20 years (since the 2002 championship specifically).
Yeah we are in a good spot rn but we play trash ass Lindenwood next weekend and then nothing since we are independents, while a bunch of other teams can improve their résumés.
I don’t pretend to know hockey well, but I always enjoyed going to Omaha Mavericks games when I went to college there and cheered from afar when I lived in Oregon. Went to 2 games in last 3 weeks and their new (to me) arena is so damn good of a facility to watch a game. 8k fans with comfortable concourse in the heart of Omaha. Also just 1.5 miles from the house I just bought so I’ll be going to so many games going forward. Helps they kicked St. Cloud’s ass after a disappointing Friday night game for a solid split against a good team. Pretty good team this year with a stud frosh goalie.
Definitely need to sweep over Lindenwood. Without accounting for other teams results, a sweep keeps Alaska at 12, a split drops them to 18 and getting swept drops them to 20. In better position than my North Dakota squad. Play Omaha at home this weekend and results are kind of a mute point other than it will decide who we play the following weekend which could actually be Omaha again.at their place. From there it is win two games against whoever we play and then have to beat either St. Cloud, Denver, or Western Michigan one night and one of them the following night to win the conference tournament to end up being the 4 seed and playing the Gophers in first round of the tournament in Fargo.
I don’t know the ins and outs of pairwise but a split dropping them six spots this late in the season seems like a lot.
That does not take into account other teams results. Right now Alaska just needs to handle Lindenwood and it would be also helpful if Minnesota State, Notre Dame, and Cornell drop a few games because at first glance I don't think they have much chance or opportunity to move past the teams in front of them. UND is #21 currently. Losing to bad teams can be an anchor around your neck. UND crapping the bed in Vegas against Arizona State, dumping a game at home to Miami while outshooting them 36-16 and a tie instead of a win against Bemidji are the difference between UND having to win the conference tournament to get in and sitting fairly comfortable at number 12 right now.
Alaska got after it last night with a 4-1 win outshooting Lindenwood 51-13 in the process. 67% chance to make the tournament. Dropped a spot to 13 last night as Notre Dame's win pushed up their RPI and flipped the comparison. https://www.collegehockeynews.com/ratings/probabilityMatrix.php Notre Dame, Cornell, and Minnesota State are the teams to root against. Clean win by UND over Omaha tonight would help as well. No upsets in conference tournaments with teams outside top 16 grabbing an auto bid is big as well. Would be great story if Alaska makes the tournament while playing as an independent.
Fantilli better win the Hobey because he's definitely the best player in college hockey. It'll be the only thing we win because we're too dumb and inconsistent to win anything else.
2 seed Michigan sweeps 7 seed Wisconsin. Sketchily. RockHardJawn39 and 6 seed PSU force game 3 with 3 seed OSU after OT win. 5 seed MSU ties up its series with 4 seed ND, game 3 tomorrow as well. Rabid does the tournament reseed after first round?
Yes, it will reseed. Congratulations to the Spartans. It’s hard to believe but that is their first ever win in the B1G tournament. The conference was formed 10 years ago.
Michigan Tech looks like they are locked in so I was thinking it would be best if they win the auto bid as Mankato is borderline if they don't.
Northeastern women enter their NCAA Tourney matchup at Yale riding a 21-game win streak, 33-2-1 on the season four straight regular season Hockey East titles and six straight Hockey East championship titles for Dave Flint's squad, who has turned Northeastern into a bit of a juggernaut. Would really really love to see Alina Mueller and Chloé Aurard go out with a freaking title, they deserve it. Incredible careers on Huntington Ave by those two
