Hmmm; that's something that's he outright denied so it doesn't really fall under the "i've been considering this" realm. Besides I feel like if George ever intended Jeyne to carry an heir he'd never would've had Robb detail his will in such a way.
The GRRM hate has obviously become a meme in itself, but I get why people are pissed. It's annoying to have to wait this long for the next installment, especially when you see so many other authors cranking out quality materials in fractions of the time it takes George. Yes, we wouldn't have it without him. Yes, the universe he is writing in is massive and complex. That being said, if he would just modify his method for planning by writing a simple damn outline, I'm sure he could have been done a long time ago. The "I'm just going to sit down and see what happens" thing is just going to end up screwing him.
I don't care that it's going to take him a long time to finish the series. I do care that he is changing part of the story after selling the rights to HBO and telling them the original plan. It's his own fault the series has caught up to the books.
Look, it's very possible that GRRM shoehorned a major twist in due to his desire to differentiate his story from the show's. I'd buy that. But he didn't change anything because there was nothing to change. He writes the story on the fly. The only thing he or anyone else knows is the end game. The path the story takes getting there has always been a work in progress, hence situations like the Merrennese knot.
Who else was scared for a second when they saw/heard George Martin of Beatles fame has died was our George Martin.
GEORGE R.R. MARTIN WILL BE A ZOMBIE ON Z NATION Entertainment Weekly teased photos ahead of Game of Thrones scribe George R. R. Martin’s zombie cameo on SyFy’s Z Nation later this season. In the show, zombie Martin will be signing a book called A Promise of Spring, a play on the rumored final title of his series, A Dream of Spring. We might also be seeing the franchise’s sixth installment The Winds of Winter as soon as next year according to a radio interview with Spanish publisher Alejo Cuervo.
If you mean that we'll have the book this fall I'll wager a 20$ tmb Donation against it. I figure I win either way.
I worry that since he already missed his deadline to get it out before S6 starts that he has nothing driving him to finish now.
Let's not forget that there are other series out there that are damn near as big and complex and the writers seem to care about finishing. That and they actually have a plan not "I'm too good a writer to use an outline" bs. That's how we ended up with the mereenese knot.
This. I feel like a lot of show fags and show fags who then read the book are sort of new to the genre and don't know how broad it is.
I keep going back to WoT and the fact that it was 13 books and finished even though the author freaking died.
Wheel of Time is nowhere close to the scale or complexity of ASOIAF. But the point is still mostly valid
You don't think it's even close scale wise? There are hundreds of characters, places, etc. I'm not saying its equal but to say its not close scale or complexity wise is short changing it IMO.
I also have a soft spot for WoT as it was my first foray into epic fantasy and introduced me to Brandon Sanderson.
That would require it to be done by what, July at the latest? I don't see that happening at this current pace.
I wouldn't expect it until 2017 tbh, it's supposed to be bigger than ADWD & ADWD took almost 6 years before finally being released in 2011.
Well, you're wrong. :) The number of characters in WoT was, if anything, greater. All those effing aes sedai. I like both series. They both started hot, the first six WoT books and the first three ASOIAF books are some of my favorite reads ever. After that, both series kinda got lost in the wilderness. Martin definitely rights more believable female characters and doesn't hesitate to kill everyone. No plot armor. Sadly, I think u gotta drop ASOIAF because the story is going to be completed in a TV show format. So much promise but in the end grrm is gonna be remembered for GoT not for his books.
Re-reading and read the Catelyn chap. where Robb returns from the Crag. It was more painful to read than Ed's beheading. Knowing all the shit his decision would lead to, keeping his wolf outside, how Grey Wind made his wife nervous and how he growled at her uncle every time. Fucking Robb, Goddammit.
the true frustration is that a good bit of Dance was cut out to move to winds and in what 6 years he is still not done...
I honestly believe he's waiting for the demand for it to get higher before releasing it, which will probably be at some point in 2016 after season 6 ends imo
It's just as likely that demand will diminish since casual book readers will feel they have been spoiled by the show and no longer feel the need to read the books.
I was just saying any point in 2016 (Christmas?) not necessarily immediately after. I just think that it's sort of like mayweather pacquio(?) in that it wouldn't generate near the excitement and money it was done earlier and without the threat or possibility of it not happening at all. That or he just realizes he's in too deep and is going to let the show finish it out for him. I like to think positive.
I think he is going to turn in winds and also dream of spring at the same time and we will get back to back books all in the fall !!!
The thing that irks me the most is this faggot is doing anything and everything other than writing. He could have finished them, but he doesn't want or know how to at this point. I think he sold the rights to HBO because he has no idea how to finish the books and this way he basically gets Benioff and Weiss to do a practice run for him. I think we get Winds in 2017 and he dies before he finishes the series.
He lost me as a reader as far as me buying it when WoW comes out. Fuck that. I'll wait till 6 and 7 come out then I'll do a re-read before I ever start either one of them. I'll just finish the show and get around to the books later.
