I didn't see another thread so figured I'd start one.

I've been watching the BBC show on Netflix and it has me intrigued. Has anybody read it?

For those unfamiliar, it's an alternative history set in Napoleonic Wars-era Britain following the relationship between two magicians.

Started this last night. Pretty intriguing so far, but it's interesting how the author chose to write it. Lots of footnotes expanding on information. Kind of recounts the historical side of the story.

Finished it. Big fan. Really well written. It's written in the old nineteenth century Dickens style, so it might not be for everyone (hence the average Goodreads score) but I thought it was great. I also enjoyed all the historical footnotes the author used, as well as the dry English humor. And the BBC show is really good and a close adaptation.

Missed this thread.... I read it back in like 2012. Did you like? The GF loved it. It's super quirky.

Yep. I pictured the man with the thistle down hair completely different than the guy they cast, but other than that I also enjoyed.

Yeah, wasn’t sure if you meant the book or show. Enjoyed them both a lot. I watched the show a couple times through when it was on Netflix

Saw the show and loved it. Is it worth reading if you know the story?

Depends on what you liked about the show -- if you want to relive the dry humor and quirky-ness of the world that Clarke created, then yes.
