I agree with you. i agree with those who say the bottom of the pac is worse than the bottom of the big 12, but the top of pac is probably better than big 12
Really? How much per school? PAC was supposed to be getting 500 mill across 12 schools with those 2 and 300 mill post those 2. I’d be surprised if the Big12 was much better than that on a per school basis.
I haven't been following this very closely, but in a down year Stanford had a top 25 viewership that was higher than UCLA. They're in a highly populated area and are a national brand that has had a decent amount of success both historically and recently. I don't know a ton about their fans, though I've been to a few of their games, but why are they not more sought after?
Yeah I’m talking about the new 2024 contract for the B12 on a per school basis vs a new PAC deal with 10 schools. I do not think they end up being that different on a per school basis.
Stanford is one school that may be better off taking a wait and see approach. IF ND jumps to the B1G at any point in the relatively near future, there's a good chance they hand pick Stanford to pair with to keep it an even number. It's an existing annual rivalry and an academic peer.
Question for ND fans: if ND were to join the B1G with your choice of up to any 3 additional schools from the Pac-12, Big XII, and ACC, who would you choose?
Stanford, Miami, UNC. Stanford i think is self explanatory. Miami gets nd into florida. And unc/duke/uva all align academically but unc’s brand has the most to offer
of all of the possible options Miami seems like the only one that actually accomplishes anything (from the nd perspective. miami themselves will continue to accomplish nothing.)
I feel like the Big XII chant going forward should be: WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE!
Stanford gives ND a game in nor cal with silicon valley alum. And nd does take academic partnerships seriously even if it does not make football sense and even then choosing UNC over what is really crazy? FSU, clemson. But this an nd perspective
That's what I figured, though I'm skeptical that UNC would join either the B1G or SEC without UVA or Duke.
I echo Wad's thoughts above. Keeps the alternating Cali road trip, keeps an East Coast academic peer, and keeps an interesting Florida match up. I'd be OK switching UNC or UVA or Duke, but from a football and brand point of view, UNC makes sense. I'd also be OK with either of Miami/FSU, but there's more history with Miami and they are also a smaller private school. Again, Wads covered it well.
My shopping list would be UNC, UVA, and Stanford if ND comes. Add WA if not. Solid quad in the West and extend footprint into SE with strong academics/athletics.
For some reason, they still have a pretty strong fan base throughout the state. Besides, odd as it sounds, one of the things we like about independence is a schedule that's geographically interesting. They still help with that. Still, I'd personally prefer Miami.
It would give the BIG tv crews the opportunity to use the always-enjoyable "Catholics vs. Convicts" resets in game intros.
any reasonable person can see at least one interesting conference there even if its just football relevant rather than football elite. the more the playoff expands the more relevant the smaller conferences become and there are plenty of programs who wont get invites but are very capable of making a lot of noise in the playoffs.
Nah. Houston gives Stanford a run for the money of least engaged fanbase out of the current Big XII/Pac-12 members
lol not a single person gives a fuck about TCU and they haven’t even been good at sports in a decade now they wouldn’t crack the top 5 fanbases in DFW and have to rely on fans of texas/oklahoma/tech to fill their stadiums
this is wrong. The longer this goes on, the rich get richer and the poor get drastically poorer there will be even fewer programs who could keep up outside the big10 and sec
i would literally trade TCU for new mexico in a heartbeat and lastly oregon can either join us or rot with washington because that big ten invitation isn’t ever coming
I still think it’s oklahoma state and wvu at the top. edit - I still keep forgetting byu. byu/Oklahoma state/wvu
I would imagine it’s likely true. Maybe not by a huge margin in Orlando market. Any tv numbers to back up? I wouldn’t even know where to start looking for those
WVU has been competitive one year in the Big 12, while Baylor has won it 3 times and played for the conference title another time. It also has the best location of any Big 12 school. Baylor Oklahoma State Cincinnati BYU UCF Texas Tech TCU Kansas State Houston Iowa State West Virginia Kansas
