God, you think Ran Reigns would get better after so many years, but that dude still bits me to sleep. Paul Heyman is rolling his eyes. I tried.
To be fair, the king of the death match final had an exploding ring and everyone was like what the fuck this sucks
yea this is what my brother in law and I talked about when it happened. Had they used the ring rope explosions and had a few larger ones that filled the ring with smoke where you can’t really see what’s going on would’ve been better. but fuck, anything would’ve been better than that.
I have no problems critiquing AEW despite enjoying it greatly. Honestly I don’t think the explosion was that far off or that different from the FMW death matches. Those FMW explosions had a collapsed ring along with trash cans along that ring that spewed fire pryo. I think if AEW had that they would have had shock and awe, smoke and been able to better able to sell some kind of massive fall out afterwards. Anything but those sprinklers. Also I think it’s a easy fix with promo anyway.
All you have to do is own the shittiness of it and make fun of yourself and it’s all good. OR Steer into the skid. Keep selling the explosion over the top. Oversell it. Talk about how Eddie Kingston put his life in harm’s way and how he could be suffering from PTSD.
It could have been less of a disaster if someone got in the ring and told Kingston to stop selling and the announcers pivoted. Hell even when Moxley tried to pivot off air Kingston was still selling. I'm sure they'll try something with a promo, but it won't change how epically hilariously bad that was.
With only the talent surrounding the ring, they easily could have had them scatter and pulled this off
The original finish should have been a pre-recorded effect and ended the PPV without going back to the live ring. It would suck for the in-house audience but they can get the sparklers to compliment the video. Match was a very fun, old school deathmatch but yeah, it'll forever be tainted (as will the PPV as a whole, which was solid) by the botched finish. I assume it was botched; I have no idea.
The only sell left they have at this point is for Kenny and/or Callis to come out and say "I wasn't actually going to have the ring explode, wasn't going to take that chance"
they said after the video cut off, Moxley got on the mic and said Omega might be tough, but he sucks at making exploding rings.
There is a difference between it being worked and it looking completely fake. I mean all wrestling fans have to suspend their disbelief a little, but it's really hard when it looks like that. It's like Shane's ridiculous punches, or anything Nia Jax does.
looks like Atlanta United's play by play announcer just got hired on to call Main Event (that's a thing still?) good guy hope his soul doesn't get crushed
On Impact they announced Moose and Rich Swann will be unifying the TNA and Impact World titles, and then at the next Impact PPV in April, Omega will take on the winner in a title unification match.
Haha, AEW are putting in copyright claims on Twitter for posts only that include the finish of the main event. And if you believe reports it's because Omega is furious about the ending.
They should all be furious about the ending. They sold that match like it was going to be some insane explosions. You could clearly tell how far away the second ropes of pyro were from the actual ropes which suspended belief a lot. Then you add in that shit ending explosion that they sold like a nuke was going to drop. Shit was absolutely embarrassing and they should all be furious about it. The match was good but damn talk about dropping the ball at the end. It wouldn’t have even been that bad if they wouldn’t have kept selling like the ring was rigged with C4 and we just watched Moxley and Kingston be blown to pieces.
They should have just pivoted and had Kingston look around confused and then had Omega come out and laugh at them. Should have had a backup plan for dealing with pyro. Good chance it is not going to go off like it is supposed to.
That would’ve been fine. Anything to just kinda make the total failure of that pyro seem like it was on purpose. Continuing to sell it like it was some extra explosion was really dumb. Should’ve changed on the spot and tried to come up with something else. I wonder if they even address it tonight.
I mean what can they do at this point. Announcers and Kingston sold it like it was real, Moxley and Khan post match sold it like it was a fuck up by Omega ignoring Kingston and Announcers actions, and now Omega is apparently throwing a fit and they are copy right claiming any mention of it on social media. It would almost be better to just move on from it instead of coming up with yet another excuse
its super easy to sell from Kingston’s point of view. Liken it to having a gun pointed at you and the trigger is pulled but it doesn’t go off. He was emotionally traumatized but now he’s pissed off. Have Kenny beat Scorpio sky tonight and Kingston comes down with a chair and beats the shit out of all of them and now you have a 4-6 week Omega vs Kingston program. It doesn’t take an insane imagination to fix this problem and Kingston is so good on the mic he can make you believe it
What I dont get is it appeared they were trying to do this with the (off air) promo from Mox they started blasting on Twitter, but even in that video Kingston was still selling behind him and being treated by multiple doctors. Couldn't even get on the same page with that
The announcers selling it that hard can be explained; “we were hiding under the desk and didn’t actually see it”
Its really easy to explain away, they just need to execute and move immediately into another feud. I'm more upset they had Scorpio Sky win because no one gives a shit about his match with Omega.
They're better off pretending it never happened and never mentioning the explosion again. It's already going to live on in wrestling infamy for a long time
Exactly, trying to make excuses for it won't work and just brings it back to forefront. Move on from it and people will eventually stop talking about it. Make up a ridiculous excuse and it will still be in the news cycles. Quick little joke maybe about it tonight and on to the next feud
I think this makes top 5 of my personal favorite all time hilarious botches but it may be recency bias Shockmaster, Jake Roberts ruining the blindfold match before it started, the TNA blindfold match where the blindfolds kept falling off, and the Titus greatest royal rumble fall I think would be my other four just pulling them off the top of my head
