He is definitely miscast here as a #1. His body has failed him some recently and that isn't a surprise. I just mean at the present moment he has some serious issues and I am not sure they will improve this season.
I guess none of us should be surprised that the team hit the skids when Larkin and Mrazek hit the a wall. They both played so well for so long we took it for granted
Everyone seems to only complain about the D on this team, obviously the D isn't great but right now the Red Wings are 22 in scoring average and 24 on the power play. The Offense to me is just as big if not a bigger issue then the D. Through 66 games no one on the team has 20 goals yet thats really bad. The only other team to not have a player with 20 goals yet is Toronto. As much as getting a #1 D is needed we also need someone who can score goals consistently, maybe Larkin can develop that next year. Obviously getting a better D should help with goal scoring some as well but to me its at least as important to significantly upgrade the O as well as the D right now.
Their point leader is Zetterberg with 41. That's gotta be the worst in the league for a point leader on a team.
I'd trade Tatar - as much as I love his fire. Nyquist, while not scoring as much, actually has some good numbers and is working well as a "do-it-all" guy...but he's sort of a puss. Tatar just makes some real bonehead plays. Either is expendable with how Mantha has rounded his game out, and he's much bigger, which I value a lot. That's why I'd trade Pulky over Jurco...Jurco is finally hitting his stride, it seems, and has the size and work ethic that Pulky lacks...but i LOVE that shot. God damn.
Detroit did sign a college FA today; defenseman Dan Renouf out of Maine. He sounds like a Marchenko type. Can't have too many D in the system, that's for sure.
Would love to just play some kids and let them grow in the NHL, instead of waiting until they're 25 and settled in the AHL.
Like whom? Not that I disagree. But there are only a few players down there right now that would be able to make the jump and possibly be an upgrade over current roster players. And it's not really that practical right now to be honest. I'd like to see Mantha get a shot. But the Wings will never bench or send down a player that should be IMO.
More of a general comment. Right now it wouldn't make a difference. But I just wonder if their development process really works. Who does it develop.
I just don't think there that good period. Larkin looks like a future star but other than that who knows
I think some people mistake these kids coming in at 22-25 and doing well (particularly the forwards) and expect that their development curve will continue for another 5 years. But in actuality they are almost a finished product when they get here. Cases in point would be Nyquist, Tatar, Pulkkinene, and Sheahan. Jurco is a slight exception as I believe he hasn't nearly reached his potential. Larkin, as advanced as his game is, still has a lot of fine tuning that we'll see over the next 5-7 years. Defense and Goaltenders are a different story.
19 (i'm a cunt) but agree. Am I the only one who thinks this team is soft as fuck? Love our guys skill and speed but severely missing the grit of the days of Shanny/McCarty/Holmstrom/Drapes/Malts.
Team has been soft for a decade. But that's the way the league is headed. We have a few gritty guys which is valuable, but no wasted space with goons, which is nice.
I spent a couple hours watching yt videos of the 07-08 team rather than work on my thesis. Fuck, that was a fun team.
Growing up in the Bay Area I pissed a lot of sharks fans during that time. Also took a lot of their money. I was insufferably arrogant but they're sharks fans so fuck em
That's the European way! Puck possession, out skate the other team. It might have worked when we had a good PP but those days are long gone.
Wings have actually played well today, but King Henrik is playing out of his mind. This would definitely be a big loss for us. Also doesn't help that Kronwall left the game in the second. It looked bad enough that I question whether or not he will be back any time soon.
Yea Henrik was a fucking wall today but a huge couple a points for the boys. 3 on 3 OT is so much goddamn to watch. I know there are a lot of arguments against it but after seeing it live I don't know how you can't love it. Anyways, let's curbstomp Babs tomorrow.
Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive 1m1 minute ago #RedWings Niklas Kronwall walked out of the room and told me he doesn't think his injury is anything major.
GR is on their way to another ten game win streak. Mantha scored his 20th tonight and Robbie Russo has another assist. I really think Russo is going to be a steal for us as a UDFA.
Per Ken Holland, Red Wings D Niklas Kronwall has sprained knee, out 1-3 weeks. Is not same knee he had scoped in January. 12:18pm - 13 Mar 16
Dats was hurt late in the first and isn't out there to start the second. We're getting outplayed badly too boot.
The Wheel Deal @Bill_Roose 45s46 seconds ago An announcement in the press box at Joe Louis Arena says that #RedWings Datsyuk has an 'upper-body injury' and his return is 'questionable'.
