Anything going on in McCurtain County OK? Saw there’s a warning but my uneducated eyes didn’t see much on the radar
Is that lighter region indicating anything? I know a tight red/green is usually an indicator of rotation. Is that lighter region a more prominent indicator, or less?
Likely very strong inflow/updraft into the storm. While there is rotation there, that enhanced area of outbound velocities are offset to the NE of the hook/rotation. Spectrum width is low - low spectrum width implies smoother, more laminar flow, whereas high spectrum width would indicate chaotic flow as a result of turbulence - spectrum width would be high where the tightest rotation is.
Good thread here on some synoptic basics. I tend to get sucked into the next big, mega trough. But as these ppl highlight, that can be a hindrance. nature is very fickle
Busy April thus far. Good example of what can happen with a parade of troughs, but no real major cold front that scours the gulf. the GOM has been wide open thus far, and that doesn't really look to change. at least drastically
I feel bad now for laughing at my driving instructor when he told me to always have my wipers on the highest speed when driving through tornadoes. Totally makes sense to me now.
Am I the only one that gets disappointed when severe weather threats get cancelled? Obviously I don’t want anyone hurt or have their property damaged, but severe weather is so goddamn exciting
This is the same cell that went through waycross. It hasn’t changed much but don’t know if anything was ever confirmed on ground.
Was it safe? No. Am I very Happy he shot that video from that distance? Yes. Also, what the fuck was in that building, looked the fucking smoke monster from Lost had been trapped in there and was finally free.
EF2 tornado in greenville last night. I went out today and worked my way towards the area where it happened and it did a good bit of damage.
Live in Spartanburg, but grew up and parents old house was near Summit Drive. Heard lots of damage near Pleasantburg Dr./Rutherford Rd. Apparently old neighbor texted mom, damage to car and house.
That day was eerie. I was in my old apartment in Birmingham and as that monster was heading up through Tuscaloosa towards north west Bham debris just started raining from the sky. I found accounting documents behind my place that were from a KFC in Tuscaloosa that got leveled.
Upgrade to 5% tor and 30% hatched big hail risk from SW OK to SE Kansas. That "angle" for lack of a better term is fairly common for tornadoes firing off from Wichita Falls and tracking through the Oklahoma City metro. Interested to see if the Tor risk gets upgraded at any point to a 10% hatched since that's traditionally how these types of days go. For reference: the 2013 Moore tornado happened in the 5% probs outside the 10% hatched. Definitely monitoring.
