Just re-read Name of the Wind. I forget how well this book is written. It’s wholly unique compared to other pieces of fantasy, and yet even with small scale stakes makes you care deeply while advancing a deeper, more sinister story in the background.

In my defense, the book is better on reread for sure. I missed a lot of details. You should all reread it and randomly bump the thread as well

Fantasy author and lifelong Dungeons & Dragons fan Patrick Rothfuss was recently on the Barnes & Noble Podcast, chatting with B&N Science Fiction and Fantasy Blog editor Joel Cunningham about everything from the sweet parental moment he fought to keep in his new comic Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons to being a good collaborator in comics and television adaptations. He also gave a small status update on The Doors of Stone, the long-awaited third installment in his Kingkiller Chronicle epic fantasy series, and his slow but steady progress.

“Kingkiller, my work on the books, is—again, it might seem strange for people to hear—but nobody laments the lack of tangible progress more than me, in terms of the next Kingkiller book,” Rothfuss told Cunningham. “But things are moving forward, if not fast—again, I’ve never promised fast, ever since I knew what I was good at professionally. I made promises very early on in interviews where I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m going to do these books one a year.’ But I was an idiot. I had just been published for like two months, I had no idea what I was talking about.”

He discussed how, yes, he had completed a draft of the entire Kingkiller Chronicle back in 2000 but described this early version as “a book you would not have liked, because it was just discernibly bad” and emphasized the changes that he had made to it in the nearly twenty years since then.

“But I am moving forward,” he said. “More importantly, I’m finally getting my life sorted out so that I can go back and approach my writing and my craft with the joy that I used to feel back in the day, when I was just an idiot kid playing D&D or working on my unpublishable fantasy novel.”

Speaking of moving forward, Rothfuss also briefly discussed picking up a back-burnered graphic novel project with collaborator Nate Taylor set in the Kingkiller Chronicle world, and his delight with the Kingkiller Chronicle TV series.

Pat’s mental health seems like a mess at times. I hope he gets his head right so he can find peace in finishing the book, so he can just move on with the rest of his life and do what he wants to do, because finishing this book seems to be destroying him at times.

Going to end up as the next GOT where the show over takes the books. Nevermind, this is a prequel. Still may finish the prequel and over take the books.

Writer John Rogers Has Finished Writing The First Season Of SHOWTIME’S Kingkiller Chronicle Adaptation
Now that the Game of Thrones has ended and it’s been settled who will rule Westeros, fans of the show look for something to feel the void. While the world of George R.R. Martin will live on in the form of prequels and spinoffs, there are a handful of franchises that are top prospects to be adapted and possibly give nerds their new fix. One such series headed our way, The Kingkiller Chronicle, has completed the writing for the show’s first season.

The upcoming adaptation will air on SHOWTIME and will be a prequel to the popular books written by author Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind or The Wise Man’s Fear. Rothfuss is currently working on a third entry into the series titled The Doors of Stone. Series writer John Rogers posted the show’s status update on his Twitter account, you can check them out below.

Oscar nominated musician Lin-Manuel Miranda will executive produce The Kingkiller Chronicle and as you can see from his tweet below, he’s already hard at work.

The fantasy series follows the story of Kvothe, an adventurous bard and sonneteer. Much of the story is Kvothe recounting his escapades to a scribe. While I haven’t read the books, I have a trusted advisor on these matters, a high-ranking (at least in my administration) nerd buddy who is a bookreader and he has sung the praises of this series for sometime now. He often tells me about novel series that could make for excellent television series. He read A Song of Ice and Fire long before it was even a thought at HBO, and he tells me Kingkiller has the potetial to be the next phenomenon.

Unlike GRRM though, the third book is actually written. Rothfuss just isn’t happy with it so it’s not “done”. He had a first draft of the book years ago.

Yea, I'm going to need do a reread at some point in the near future on the first two, but I'm not sure if I'd rather just wait until I have a release date for the third book.

Rothfuss is so good. The story is great, but the writing is downright elegant.

Just doing a "reread" via audiobook. It's not quite the same, but still goddam good.

Also listening to his pod with the Cards Against Humanity guy. He's a very appealing personality as well

So these are my bosses favorite books and he recommended them a couple times so I gave it a shot.

Just incredible writing, NotW was better but I really liked WMF too. Was unaware it's a GRRM level writer's block situation though and that makes me sad

    Different tho.

GRRM is a passive-aggressive asshole who hates his readers and is in love with his own fame, and will do anything to avoid writing. He'll never finish.

Rothfuss is maniac self-editor who obsessively rewrites every sentence and takes a long time to be satisfied.

Plus maybe 30 years younger. He'll finish.

Last book has been done for 3 years, Rothfuss just hates himself too much and thinks it sucks so he’ll edit it for another several years/decades

IMO, if it was an August release, we'd all know about it and they'd be ramping up PR for it.

Ive only read these once. Im going to have to re-read them both before I read the 3rd.
