When? Good luck if it's soon - northern Michigan is basically sold out through the 3rd week of August.
In Commerce took on thousands of dollars of tree damage. Lost 4 trees but thankfully nothing to the home. Might have some irrigation issues from the uprooting along with no power of course. Neighborhood had dozen down total.
Played Indian Springs in White Lake today and it seems like power was out uniformly north of M-59. Lots of trees down, lots of DTE and Comcast trucks circling. Sounds like we were on the edge of the storm and we still got buckets. If any of you were in the foursome in front me playing 2 balls each, seriously fuck off.
Played Belvedere up in Charlevoix Friday in three hours. Course was in great shape compared to where it was a few years ago.
To who, the high school girl working the grill without electricity or the 75 year old woman in the pro shop?
Will be interesting to see what the covid-19 cases look like today. If they keep trending strongly upward the state should go back to daily updates. On the plus side, the state vaccination level keeps creeping up. Up the 63.2% overall. Would be lovely to get to 70% by the time school starts, but we've unfortunately got a lot of folks in the state with brain damage from Fox News and Facebook.
Just...slept(?) through the night with no power. Storms really fucked me since I couldn't leave windows open.
Bonus: Couldn't leave my apartment windows open, but I did manage to leave the back windows of my car open, so at least it stayed cool. And wet. So wet.
I had to run an errand this morning, and there was a van almost half submerged in water on a Berkley side street.
The past year has me seriously considering a whole home generator, especially since I'm working from home for the foreseeable future. Anybody have one? We bought a Generac GP3250 from Meijer maybe 8-9 years ago and it still works well. Easily runs our sump and fridge plus a few other ancillary things like the coffee maker and cell phones.
My parents have a Generac whole home one up north and they’ve been pretty thrilled with it. My biggest issue is that we’re probably moving in a year or two so don’t want to make the investment.
No we leave it outside the garage (with the garage door closed) and run a really long extension cord to the basement. It has a couple plugs so you can run multiple cords.
My house is a walkout, so I have access to the outdoors not 20' from the sump. Do you put the generator in some type of enclosure, or does it sit in the (fucking pouring) rain during the "event"?
No enclosure. To be honest nearly every time I've used it the weather has been mild (post-storm). Maybe I've just gotten lucky.
Yeah the DTE and Consumers maps for the state are insane looking. Might be a couple of days for a lot of people. Making things worse is that Wisconsin got hit hard yesterday too so the out of state crews from Illinois/Indiana are gonna be stretched thin.
The power surges wrecked the capacitator (or whatever it is called) in my AC unit. Luckily the AC guy was able to fix it last night. Anybody with AC issues in west Oakland County or Livingston County, these guys are great: https://www.yourcomfort.org/
I'm almost at the point replacing the capacitors in my upstairs unit myself, if not for the EXTREMELY HIGH VOLTAGE involved. It's routine enough that when i call them every other season or so I just tell them to be sure to bring a capacitor. 15 minute fix.
When you consider a tankless water heater, please also imagine the cold showers if/when you lose power for several days.
Can you just unplug the unit? Mine plugs into a plug built into the side of my house so the guy (who has now done this twice) doesn't even need to flip the fuse off.
No, mine is hard-wired. Also, even when powered off, i believe capacitors hold a big jolt in them. (caveat: I'm no electrician, and didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express).
There is a guy that lives in Milford or his parents live in Milford...has millions of followers on TikTok for doing pretty wild/strange videos with his Dad. https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMRd7x9kd/
Has anyone done any camping at Nordhouse Dunes? We are looking for a place to go this weekend within 4 hours of Ann Arbor for some backpacking if anyone has recommendations.
