One small point of optimism is that the Gamel for Santana trade is fine. The narrative early in the season when Santana was hitting home runs was wow they got him from the Brewers for nothing. Now Santana is the worst outfielder in baseball according to Statcast powered by Amazon outs above average. Gamel has about the same OPS and is a + defender.
That and we've split with the best teams in the league, have started to hit the small game, just have had untimely pitching implosions left and right
Unfortunately both the Cubs and Cards look really good. We need to not only cure the dreadful pitching situation, but turn it to a +.
Hiura with another big game last night 3-4 with two HRs, a double, and a walk. Really looking forward to him talking over at second base.
"In a 10-9 win, it was all about Jimmy Nelsongetting back into game action today as he went 3 1/3 innings with three runs on two hits and four walks. He did strike out three but getting back on the mound is huge!"
We are facing three lefties this weekend. This is the perfect time to call up Hiura but they will probably just go with Perez all three games and sit Moustakas once and Shaw twice.
Burnes will eventually be the teams best starter but we might just have to keep him in the pen this season.
So how much longer do we pretend that Shaw isn't terrible. He has options so send him down until he starts hitting.
I mean Shaw and Aguilar have been pretty much automatic outs all season. Aguilar has no options so we are stuck with him but Shaw needs to go and it needs to happen now. I've also been holding off on this but Cain has been terrible for quite awhile now; he is still great in CF but he needs to hit.
Yeah that was pretty terrible and he is not good defensively at all. Still imagine this offense with Pina in there every day.
Easily the most disgusting performance of the season. Between leaving a million runners on base and the defense it is just awful. Grandal better have an OBP of at least .350 because he sucks defensively.
Bases loaded and 3-0 count on Grandal and he swings. The only player on this team that should be allowed to swing in that situation is Yelich.
I've had it with both Shaw and Aguilar. Nice that Shaw walked twice tonight but he continues to swing through tons of hittable pitches and Aguilar besides two good games against Colorado has been terrible. I bet we wait till June to bring Hiura up but he should be here now.
No reason to worry about it. He hit a HR in New York with me in attendance so it can be done. He also hit one in Chicago on Sunday that would have been out on a normal day as well as one in Philadelphia on Monday. When the weather heats up Yelich will do just fine on the road. Yelich is the least of this teams problems.
Sounds like Jesus' minor batting tweak has helped. Doesn't sit the bat so high now. On a 9 game hitting streak.
Unbelievable how well our scrap heap pick ups have been. Where would this team be without Gio, Moustakas and Grandal?
