god damn. missed that while driving to ocala. want me to buy you a horse with your winnings while I’m here?
Charlatan is good, don't get me wrong, and he's definitely closer to Tiz the Law than he is to any other horse that just ran in the Belmont, but I don't think he's quite on the same tier as Tiz the Law, Honor A.P., or Nadal. At least when we are talking classic distances. Shame that we won't get to see Nadal run against them. Very impressive performance from Tiz the Law, but with that said, the best 3YO that ran at Belmont today was Gamine. That was pure destruction.
Wish the 8th was an extra 100 yards but feel good feel confident about hitting the board in the 9th. Could win. The two favorites freaked on a wet fast track and it hasn’t rained out there in 10 days
Create an account on equibase and you can add horses to your virtual stable and will notify you when they’re entered and when they work out
Meanwhile...in Japan: While the turf does seem to suit her (and American Pharoah horses have had some turf success) - with that pedigree, I wish she was in the U.S. and racing on dirt. Careless Jewel could be a bit wild in her own right, but when she was on, she was very good, winning the Alabama by 11 lengths. She was just unfortunate enough to be completely overshadowed by running her races in 2009 while both Rachel and Zenyatta were at their peak - neither of which she ever faced.
That horse must be an idiot. Lots of tapits are headcases. And American pharaoh is a failure at stud so far
Did you expect that kind of race from him first time out, or did that even surprise you a little bit? Asking mostly because he went off at 12-1.
Paul lo duca tweeted his picks for lone star I was telling the guy who bought him for me that he was going to win. I almost always feel pessimistic the day of races but I felt really good about this one
Have five horses entered from Sunday to Tuesday. By far the biggest few days of my career. Two stakes races. total purses: $200,000 In March 2018 I called Danny Pish out of the blue and told him I wanted to figure out how to own a horse Wild
i really like my horse herbs love in the turf stakes on tuesday. she is 2-1 morning line though so not much value
Travers day today. Will follow along with the stakes races here, though I have been cold today so far. I typically talk about the Travers day maiden race as a spot that a top 2YO or two will debut in, and that Pletcher horse, Mutasaabeq, certainly looked the part in that field. Also think the horse that finished 3rd, Raise the Rent, is one to watch as the distances increase. I'm going to give the 5, Letruska, a shot here in the Ballerina. Step up in class, for sure, but I don't think any of the bigger names are in great form right now (Bellafina, Serengeti Empress, Come Dancing), and speed figure wise she fits right in there. Would have Serengeti Empress second.
Not going to try and beat Gamine (5) here. I'm just going to go with a straight exacta of Gamine over Venetian Harbor (6).
Tiz the Law (6) and Uncle Chuck (3) deserve to be the clear top two choices. But I don't see much value in betting either on the win end. I don't think the difference between those two and the rest of the field is as drastic as the prices indicate. One horse I have been extremely high on dating back to his maiden breaker is Caracaro (7), and my main idea will be to get him into the exotics. I really liked his Peter Pan when he came off a lengthy layoff and, even though he came in 2nd to Country Grammer (2), I think you could make the argument he had the worst trip. Only concern is if this is too much, too soon for him. Country Grammer would be fourth for me, and I could see using him underneath as well, but I'll largely stick with the top 3.
I can't help but make a small win bet on Caracaro at what looks like it is going to be somewhere between 15-1 to 20-1. He isn't the likeliest winner, but I think he should be closer to 8-1 to 10-1.
Necker Island was a horse that I kept betting and kept losing on all year. He finally came through for me today, as I keyed him underneath Art Collector in tris (and used about four other horses in the other spot, one of which was Attachment Rate). Returned just over $86 for a $1 bet with a 2-5 shot on top.
todays the day. have horses in the second, 7th and 8th races at lone star. i like herb's love in the turf stake--i think her price will drift up to something more like 4-1. and i like my horse policy limit to hit the board in the $100,000 futurity in the 8th. every other horse in the race needs the lead to win and he has shown ability to close. i think the extra half furlong will help. also, it sounds like he really got a lot of out of his last race and is doing well. both herbs love and policy limit are for sale in the auction at lone star on 8/24. so good showings today should really boost their value. we got a call last week with someone's opening offer being $35,000 for policy limit. i just turned them down and didn't negotiate. so if he runs well today it will be interesting to see what he sells for.
