Sure, but it looks like there’s only two new reactors being built currently in the entire US. Nuclear construction just doesn’t move at the speed of other generation. It’s not relevant to g8r’s self prescribed timeline.

Nuke seems like the long range solution. Seems like the bridge between now and then would be keeping all current facilities online (even coal) until these facilities are built.

This is due to permitting, cost overruns, and a kWh price that is too high in today’s environment. What happened with Vogtle and santee cooper will scare off other potential nuke builds.

Yup. There are some providers who have that options around here as well but our provider (Eversource) doesn't quite have any alternative plans for residential customers.

Discussing nuclear like it takes too much time fails to acknowledge how long it will take to do solar wind battery storage at grid scale (which would have to be overbuilt probably 3x). We literally don’t have the production capacity and I wouldn’t say our relationship with China is great.

Cost is another bs issue, China is building 150 nuclear reactors in 15 years for $500 billion. That’s a quarter of the covid stimulus.

You do both solar/wind and nuclear, whether it’s large nuclear plants or small modular reactors.

Fortunately the rest of the world understands this, you have China the largest emitter in the world going nuclear, France is expanding their fleet, same with South Korea, and even Japan is discussing reopening. Germany continues to be moronic but they’ve been dumb for a decade.

What could be interesting is if Ford, GM, Toyota, etc partner/invest in residential solar and offer an EV offset system to EV buyers that own their home or have a space to install at low or no cost as a sort of incentive package.

my neighbor got one and loves it too. I'm waiting for a model Y (July/August currently) but I think the Volvo might be the better buy. It's significantly less expensive, correct?

Ours cost $1600 total when we installed it in October, got the EV in January, and between rebates and fuel savings we've already broken even

Looks like you’re in at about 59 MSRP for top end, with 7500 back. Tesla Y is 62/67. Trade offs are that Tesla has the currently better charging network for road trips and 75-100 mile rated range advantage.

Marginally less (I think the model Y MSRP was our out the door cost). I didn’t test drive a Tesla but I just love the handling on it - it handles like the S40 I grew up driving, the design is very streamlined, and it is a much smoother ride than the Subaru SUV I’ve been driving, plus all the advantages of EV over ICE.

The biggest knock is the 220ish mile max range - I think Teslas have them way beat on that - but I don’t take a ton of long road trips.

Starters would be allowing contractors to work like they normally do instead of having them under the guidelines of an operating nuclear plant. The rules that apply to an online plant are so restrictive especially in the construction process.

I just got my c40. Preferred it to the Teslas. Maybe some familiarity bias as we have an xc90 already.

    Love it.

the one thing I will say is teslas dont get their advertised range, while other companies seem to be outperforming their advertised range

We put 2400 miles (wife goes to Orlando Wednesday and back Friday) on the Tesla Y last month and spent a total of $15 to charge it.
The hotel my wife stays at in Orlando charges $3.75 for as long as you charge. So she charges overnight.
I had a charger installed at work and I then charge it on Monday at work for free and then Tuesday so it's full for her trip on Wednesday morning to Orlando.

This seemed timely as there was discussion itt recently about comparing the Model Y vs the Volvo iirc. This video was just released today and compares the two as well as the Audi Q4.

Waiting on EVs is no fun. I hope that I can get an F150, but the idea of no tax credit has me questioning it. Hope we can get some new legislation on that.

Otherwise I was looking at an e-tron Q4, which could be a good replacement for my Acura RDX. I’ll hit 200k on that in a year or so and then really have to decide what I want to do.

Probably has already been mentioned, but there are new models of solar, that make the process more streamlined and require less maintenance and effort for installation. This basically goes on like normal shingles and can fit more units per sq ft (although not quite as efficient as panels).

From doing a little more digging, it appears the more affordable trims of the Ocean won't be available right away(if ever), so I'll be able to keep an eye on the the more luxury versions for a bit to see if there are issues.
