City courses are generally good. Common Ground is a treat. And as gimmicky as it is, I’m a huge fan of Fossil Trace.
Wish I could. Fossil trace is something I’ve really wanted to play, but I’ll just have to tackle that next year.
I’m so goddamn sick of shooting 80 with 36+ putts every fucking weekend, but I think I hate practicing putting even more. Sigh
I don't really buy Bryson's math here and I'd be willing to bet you'd have to go a bit higher than 165th but I get his sentiment. Something we've talked about itt before anyway. https://www.golfwrx.com/662136/brys...st-where-players-make-an-annual-loss-on-tour/
He’s probably assuming his current expenses given his current ranking/earnings. Id imagine guys that’s are regularly around 165th are keeping costs a ton tighter.
Yeah, I mean I understand the argument that flying private versus commercial is seen as an investment for the guys near the top of the earnings lists. But I can only imagine how far Bryson pushes the “investment” card with a bunch of absolutely ridiculous expensive shit.
Yep. Also, the article just mentions the on course earnings for the 165th guy. That guy also has meaningful income from sponsors on top of his on course earnings each year. Also, food costs? That's so minimal for most of those guys. Max Homa said on one of the NLU series that you could technically eat at the course for free each meal while you're at a tournament with exception of dinner depending on the tournament.
Was it Kuchar that would show up at the course at all off hours during events to get every free meal he could?
I heard an interview with a new winner and I can't remember who it was but the advice he was given was to treat yourself better if you want to keep winning. Stay at nice hotels, nicer rental cars, better physio, etc. Better for overall mental health and making one feel like they belong in the winners circle.
Fringe top 165 players make a living but it ain't glamorous. The caddies for those guys struggle to pay bills
ND needs to start pitching fringe elite golf recruits: 1. Come play golf at ND 2. Give it your shot on tour 3. Get a masters doing a bunch of joke classes 4. At 25 if it's not working land at some consulting/banking/accounting/marketing/whatever job
I’ve set a course up like this before and it was fun as hell to watch. (We had to change pins midday it was for an event) but fuck playing like this
Follow up on the Bryson break even story, Soly asked Homa about it on the latest pod and Max said that was quite a stretch; he guessed earlier in his career he spent about $100k on travel for the year. Number 165 on last season’s money list made $488,887 so Max’s assumption that the break even is way lower on the list makes more sense
Was just checking our nike account and we have jordan 1 low golf shoes coming in January. Haven't seen them online yet.
Telling players of their development tours they can no longer use certain facilities due to other members and guests getting playing privileges instead seems like a straight cash grab by the Tour. Gotta fund that $20 million Players purse somehow I guess. There’s some good follow ups in the comments too about how much of an impact that’ll have
I haven't been one to get on the trend of the Jordan golf shoes but I want these. Alas, I'm guessing they don't go up to size 15.
Negative. Buddy's in the special forces and stationed out there. He hooked it up. I didn't ask questions and just enjoyed it.
Heading to Pinehurst next week for a golf trip. We screwed up by not staying on site and are having a difficult time getting tee times on any of the Pinehurst courses. Below is what we tentatively have scheduled to play. We hoping to do Mid Pines and Pine Needles but all are currently booked. Also would live to play the Cradle but cannot book until the day before. Any chance we can get on? Any have any suggestions of other courses to play in the area or things to do? Thursday- Duke Golf Course in Raleigh Friday: Talamore in AM and Pinewild (Magnolia) in the afternoon Saturday: pinewild (Holly Course) Sunday: Tobacco Road.
Big fan of Duke, have played several times. Depending on how the greens are it can be pretty difficult if your out of position on greens. If they are playing fast and your above the hole, good luck.
You will have a great time. If you have an early tee time Saturday you might be able to get a twilight rate at Mid Pines or Needles and play 9. The Cradle will be packed but if it’s 4 guys you have a chance to just walk up and kind of sneak on. It’s super laid back. Make sure you gamble with the 9-12 year olds who hang around and love to play a hole for 20 bucks. Once tried to bet a kid a hat and he looked at me and said “I already have everything from the store”. Cash game old man…
Had a very humbling range day yesterday with my new I59s and glide pro forged wedges. They seem about 10-15 yards shorter than my i210 and my glide 3.0s. I also suck and don't hit the center of the face.
