First time listening. Not sure I’ll like this host but the columbine information was really well done
I need to play it, not ringing a bell but I haven't heard everyone one per the 3 years I've been listening
Anyone know what happened to the Darkest Timeline community podcast? Last episode is from Late July and I can’t find anything about it online
Joel Mchale and Ken jeong have been doing a community podcast together since Covid started. They have on guests from the show and other actors and talk about random shit
Anyone else ever have issues with downloaded eps that stutter all the time? A couple of wks ago every podcast i listen too stutters through like 15 seconds every couple mins? I just repeat that section and it's fine going forward for a few mins before it does it again. Super annoying and dont understand it.
Something similar was happening to me recently and I figured out it was happening when my Bluetooth headphones were connected to multiple devices. Stopped when I disconnected my PC and iPad.
The Piketon Massacre has been good. Not great podcasting by any means, but an interesting story that I had not heard.
Been listening to one called Lions Led by Donkeys. It's a military history podcast. The hosts are 30something vets. At least one is a historian also. Sort of in the Behind the Bastards style but it's about all of the bizarre, stupid, and incompetent stuff that happens in war Also has interesting anecdotes like about why you see Spetznaz troops during the Soviet-Afghan War wearing Adidas tennis shoes instead of combat boots
Youd probably like Hell of A Way To Die. It's w two leftists in the Army and they just shit on how dumb the military is
That one and the one I mentioned are like partners in some way. I subbed to it but haven't listened yet Maybe you knew this already
The Millenium Challenge 2002 one for Lions Led by Donkeys is a good one to start with. I wouldn't say it's a comedy podcast exactly, but there are funny parts. Especially growing up in a country that fetishizes how awesome war and the military are
I didnt, although they someone frequently have on a guest who Im guessing is from the Lions podcast. One of them is from my hometown and I sort of know him. (Met him a few times in social circles).
I discovered the Lions podcast from the Bastards episode about Pat Tillman, which was an entertaining listen but the story is way more fucked up than I ever knew
Also C-Span has all of their shows in podcast form. Not sure why this didn't occur to me before like last month. Q&A, Afterwords, Lectures in History are the best unless you really enjoy the crazy old people who call in
What apps do you all use? I was on the Apple podcasts app forever and decided to give Overcast a try when I tried the new Apple podcast app beta. I like the interface of overcast, but miss the top charts and suggestions of Apple podcasts. I use the charts to find new stuff a lot and looking outside the overcast app is a pain.
I've been listening to the Lions Led By Donkeys archives Apparently the Soviet army began "clearing" houses in Afghanistan with grenades. Jesus Christ
I feel like I haven’t listened to or heard about a good investigative podcast in a long time. What is going on?
You know that Overcast has suggestions, right? Click on the “+” in the upper right-hand corner and then “Suggestions for You” and it will present a scrolling list.
i would say worth a listen but if you've listened to the dan carlin one, there probably won't be very much that's new it's a lot more straightforward than carlin's over the top storytelling
Loved Blueprint for Armageddon. Still, I like History Unplugged and will probably enjoy his (and his guest's) take.
it's the same dude who did the 10 Great Battles series on the Civil and Revolutionary wars i like the guy but i can understand why people might not
Blueprint is phenomenal and anyone can listen and enjoy. This one is more focused for those that have an interest in military history, strategy and technology. Carlin’s just has something for everyone I have enjoyed it quite a bit thus far
Can't remember if I posted in this thread, but I definitely posted in the Atlanta thread. If mafia stuff interests you, check out Racket. They just posted the final episode last Wednesday. I'm already halfway through after only starting last night.
Truman (I think) Good call on The City. I breezed through the first 8 eps of S1 today while painting my house. It it quintessential Chicago grift plus all sorts of fuckery.
I have been listening to “tom browns body” by the Texas monthly. The narrator and soundtrack are really good. It is well produced. They are dragging it out a little much tho
