New to coffee snobbery. Anyone have an opinion of this machine?

Got it for christmas as a surprise. So far the coffee has been crazy good.

I can now easily identify what good and bad coffee is. Never buying 8-oclock from walmart ever again. Jesus that was bad. Also bought a nice cheap mr. Coffee grinder. It does the job.

my aunt gave me her old chemex today. the box of filter papers has a copyright of 1971. fucker is huge. judging by the marks on a drip coffee maker carafe, it holds about 14 cups.

any tips on using this thing? i've looked a bit and people seem to do everything by weight. what ratio do y'all use? also, what's the right grind for this thing?

If I were you, I would get the regular breville DB machine without the grinder and then get a good grinder. It's an $800 increase for a subpar grinder and a touch of convenience/counter space. For $800 you can get a really nice grinder (which is as important if not more important than the machine anyway) and your coffee will be much better.

I found a place near me that grinds the beans for whatever application you want to use. Watched a few videos on YouTube.

I'm using 6oz of water per ground tablespoon of coffee.

Truth. Problem is I'm up north of the 101 quite a ways with all the rich olds. They don't know that coffee life. Best I can do is this place called Press at the Quarter. It's sufficient. Whole Foods espresso bar isn't bad either.

ok fellow coffee cunts, I need help upping my home pour over game. I'm finally going to put the V60 I got for Christmas 2014 to use. Watching online videos, it looks like I need a kettle. Thinking this one:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...rue&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_2&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Anyone have it or can you recommend another?

Also kind of like this one but it is more expensive:

My advice is to get electric. The alternative is painfully slow. People will say that you need a gooseneck, but I successfully do my pourovers with this:

we have one like that which my wife used to use for tea and oatmeal. I tried to do pour overs with it and failed miserably. I read some people use the kettle and pour into the goose neck but it seems like a lot of heat is lost in the transfer

I've never used a v60, so maybe ymmv. I use the kalita wave. I'm able to gently agitate the grounds, but it probably depends on the spout of the specific kettle. I will say that I used a non-electric for a while, and I eventually wanted to kill myself for waiting on it. Mine goes from ice cold to boiling in 2-3 minutes

hey French Pressers. . . is there any sort of secret to cleaning and maintaining your press? Lately my coffee has been tasting the same ( in a bland sense ) and I'm pretty sure its not the beans I'm using. Other than rinsing the press I haven't really cleaned or sanitized the device.

Only other factor that I think could be hindering the taste is either my tap H2O or the Kettle I use to boil (stainless).

I like my shit strong and flavorful and if I don't have a strong cup daily I get killer headaches.

Think I have posted it before, but if you are looking for a nice balance between french press and pourover, which is pretty fool proof and easier than either, try the Clever Coffee cone. Produces amazing coffee, you can vary all sorts of factors to change the flavor profile, and it is much closer to the Ron Popeil "set it and forget it" concept. Only cunty thing I do when using it is wet the grounds and let them bloom before adding the rest of the water.

I like good coffee quite a bit, but I don't seem to be as cunty as many of you. My current coffeemaker, a Cuisinart DCC-1150, just seems to be producing weak flavor recently. I got it 6 years ago, so maybe it's failing.

I use a burr grinder right before brewing, and use a Aeropress at work, but want something simpler for home.

So with that said, is the Bonavita BV1900TS the way to go for automatic brewers? Seems like it gets great reviews and it's half the price of the Technivorm.

Does your's not come apart by unscrewing the plunger from the press? My usual routine is to rinse-clean, and then when I run out of beans I take it apart and scrub with soap. If your's won't disassemble I'd recommend soaking it in saltwater overnight.
