Anybody see this yet? For those that don't know, season 1 is a 6 part documentary on Netflix about East Miss JUCO. I didn't realize that's where Trickett was. So far it is exactly like you think you think a JUCO in Scooba, MS would be.
Watched a bit yesterday while nursing a hangover. Place has insane facilities for a JC. Pretty boring show tho, def not a hard knocks quality production
These guys will look so good with a bird with teeth on their helmet. Keep me updated on their progress/rape conviction status.
After hearing about this, I watched the first episode. She's from my hometown and was a couple years apart from me in school.
If Clint Trickett wanted to coach, wouldn't he have been starting off as a GA rather than a QB coach at a Juco?
Amazingly enough, he had one good half in the entire season before he got his offer. Most of the spotlighted players, to me, were unlikable. DJ Law and Ronald Ollie both have unrealistic assessments of their own talent and are me-first players. Ollie is dumb as sand and should have thanked whatever spiritual being he could that he had an offer to move up. Law was told a hundred times to walk away from any cheap shot and he couldn't do it. Even the head coach is a douche for the most part. Granted, he was angry about the fight but to castigate everyone else after the show he put on earlier...no credibility at all.
I think I read something he or his dad said that starting off it's good to coach first, learn second (I would imagine he'll be looking to GA somewhere soon.) Don't know if I agree with that statement but at the bare minimum you have real coaching responsibilities. He could probably do better income-wise as a GA now too with the cost of attendance deal
Fair enough. I felt like those guys had their moments/showed softer sides. Both grew up without father figures and were afraid to commit to things they weren't good at, like school. Olly is about as smart as a 10 year old. Can we talk about the guy who does the lion roar? He was killing me
Shit...you're right about the father figures and all. And Ollie's story is awful. You could hear lion roar guy in the stands even when they weren't highlighting him!
This fuckin coach man bitches his team out for being goaded into a fight goes to try to fight the other coach bitches his team out again for being goaded into a fight oh yeah and we can't forget that two game suspension for fighting some ref
Where did the series even show him really coaching? All I ever saw was him pulling in on a golf cart after practice was well underway and yelling at his players during drills.
Stephens is a known POS in Mississippi JUCO circles. The bullshit at EMCC (and Copiah-Lincoln) allowed the 3rd best team in the state to not only be state champs, but national champs. The JUCO system in Mississippi truly is the wild west of football.
"I ain't gone deal with this bullshit! Ya'll a buncha goddamn thug ass cocksuckers! Our father..." - Coach, probably
One of the rednecks they interviewed tailgating is a state representative. Not sure if they pointed that out.
http://www.si.com/vault/1984/04/30/630220/the-toughest-coach-there-ever-was Deford wrote an article about the guy that coached at EMCC in the 50s and 60s. Very long, but this is probably my favorite piece of football writing ever made.
He thinks he is gods gift to coaching football. You take players that no one else would due to issues and out athlete opponents. Also it's JUCO so turbo needs to slow his role. Someone needs check his ass.
John Franklin should diaf. That mother fucker showed no appreciation for his opportunity and all he can talk about is leaving. Such a bitch
I know I know. It was just how open he was about it and how he wanted EVERYONE to know he was gone in 6 months. It just rubbed me the wrong way. I'll move along
Everyone wanted out, but he was acting like it was an original thought of his and that his teammates were stuck there. And he also said "On God" way too many times. Auburn was actually a good choice for him, because he's obviously going to need some luck to succeed - and they're Luck U.
