Not the best game, but got the win. Interesting that Mkhitaryan only came on for the last few minutes. Boy was it fun watching Ibra score that winning goal though, what a summer we have had signing wise.
I was surprised mkhitaryan didnt get any playing time really. But i suppose the real matches start next week and im hoping it was just for a rest. But you need real game time to gel. I like lingard. United fans generally shit on him but he was effective last year in his role. Mou shoving rooney and ibra into this lineup together is going to kill me. Hope rooney gets hurt so we dont have to deal with that. I dont know what combo of central midfielders we will have next weekend. Its hard to predict. We played what a 4-2-3-1 today... Pogba excels more in the 4-3-3. We have the players for a 4-3-3. But are we going to continue with a 4-2-3-1 just to appease rooney... hmmm. Mourinho of all managers i would think would be the one to sit rooney.
Pogba and Lingard wil give us the hip celebrations. ed woodward, marketing genius to appeal to the youths.
Think the 4-2-3-1 is fine so long as the 2 are some combo of Herrera, Pogba, Fellaini, Schneiderlin. Clear why there's no place for Bastian, as sad as it makes me.
this is the second game in a row we've had to watch ibra and rooney together. i'm worried. it just isnt fast enough, rooney is wasteful with a horrid touch, they both drop deep. of all managers, mou has to be the one with the balls to sit rooney right? right...
Seems like as far back as ibra is playing maybe he should be at rooney position with rashford up top. Might be time for rooney to simply be a super sub.
Bailly's potential gets my dick hard. He's only 22 so there will still be some growing pains but the guy carries himself like someone who's been playing for 10 years. Have to keep Ibra up top. He's played there his entire career and we need a big powerful stiker to be a constant nuisance to the big CB's in the league. I mean he was just shrugging off Wes Morgan left and right in today's game and that's not something you see every day. Ibra is the kind of player that you just put on the field and let him go wherever he wants. Rooney is definitely a concern tho and it feels like that captain's armband is the only thing getting him consistent minutes at this point. If anybody has the balls to end the Rooney era then it's definitely Mou, and I'm pretty sure I remember him saying that Rooney would have to fight for his spot like everyone else when he was first hired.
Reports that the official fee for Pogba is £89m. Has to be some add-ons to that imo, plus I think the club is paying all of Raiola's agent fees.
i dont understand how he got this much power to begin with. saf saw this - he was phasing out rooney before fucking moyes and that contract. mourinho is intelligent and i hope he'll be phased out soon. given circumstances i understand that mourinho can't come in and do it right away. a little more tact. hopefully by october-nov he'll be consistently off the bench.
Not getting Pep or Ancelotti when SAF retired is what really fucked us. Moyes wasn't a very popular hire and he probably felt that he needed Rooney around for leadership and to hold the team together, and the same goes for LvG.
Loved Bailly today. Even though the slide in the first half and meg were bad, he seems so calm and collected in back. I don't know his size, but he looks really big as well. It's gonna be nice to have a two true CBs back there after suffering through Blind being there all last year. I'm pretty sure Mou's thing is the 4-2-3-1. Pogba will probably sit in the DM with Blind/Carrick/Schneiderlin when all is said and done. If Rooney gets benched, I think Mata/Mkitaryan slide in there (even though I prefer Mkitaryan out on the right).
And I don't think Rooney will be benched. I think it will take time for him and Ibra to get chemistry, but when it happens it could be special.
Yeah, Mou will probably stick with the 4-2-3-1 but I'm sure Pogba will likely have a lot of freedom to get forward in the attack. I'm also fully expecting Fellaini to be his partner back there.
Idk but Fellaini just seems like Mou's kind of player. Someone to get in there and dirty things up in front of the backline, even tho he's basically a walking yellow card. Plus, Carrick can't have more than 1-2 years left in him. With Mou trying to force Schweini into finding a new club, Schneiderlin (maybe Blind/Fosu-Mensah too) is the only other DM on the roster besides Fellaini. I'd love to see him and Januzaj shipped off to Sunderland but I just get this weird feeling that we are in for another season full of Fellaini.
Mou loves Fellaini's versatility, as many managers would. Problem is that when he's exposed, he's really exposed.

Paul Pogba gave an exclusive interview to MUTV shortly after completing his transfer back to Manchester United from Juventus. In part one, the French midfielder spoke to David Stowell about his excitement at returning to the Reds, and of how he's grown as a player in his four years away. Look out for part two from 09:00 BST on Tuesday… Paul, welcome back to Manchester United. How do you sum up your emotions right now? There’s no words, to be honest, there’s no words. I just came back to Carrington. It was like I’d just come back home. I just went for a holiday, looks like I went for a holiday. I’ve come back home, I’m happy and I see everyone, the same persons. It’s just a great feeling, to be honest. I suppose it’s a funny question after what you’ve just said but why are you back here at United? What made you come back? I think it’s destiny, I would say it’s destiny. First my mum told me I would come back here and I told her, ‘You never know, you’ll see.’ For myself as well it’s a big challenge too, just to come back to where I came from, where I grew up, where I started. I didn’t finish what I started here so I think I came here to finish it. And of course, you have to listen to your mum… My mum, she says ‘Your mum’s always right.’ So she was right this time, so it’s good. And how does it feel to be the world’s most expensive footballer? That’s quite an achievement with all that you’ve already achieved on the pitch… The thing with me is I only think about the pitch. I want to do great, I want to be one of the best, I want to win titles, I want to achieve things and that’s all; that’s why I came here, just to do this, to become one of the best and to win titles because I know this club has to win titles. This club is created to win titles, to win things, to win big things. I just focus on this and that’s it. I’m just ready to go and work on that and just kill it. (smiles) Has it been a mad summer for you, playing in the Euros at home for France and then being linked with different clubs? Yeah. Was there a bit of sadness? Of course, because we lost the final at home. But I will say I’m happy. It was a bad thing for a good thing so I’m happy now. I’m back home and it’s something crazy, it’s really crazy, I cannot explain. I’m very, very happy, the feeling I have in my body. I can’t wait to start. What’s it like being Paul Pogba now, compared to when you were here at 18 or 19, in this indoor arena at the Academy? Well, I was younger. Now I’m taller and bigger (laughs). It’s just like… as I told you… it looks like I went for a holiday and I came back home. I was meant to come back here. I feel this. I always had this United thing in my heart and that’s why I came back. I’m happy, just happy. How have you changed as a player since you were here at United the first time around? What have you learned about your game, about yourself? How are you different? I’m more experienced, I’ve won titles at Juventus. I’ve been playing with big players like when I started at Man United, of course. I came back. I’ve not come back from the Academy now; I went to play somewhere else and I came back, I would say, as a person, as an adult. I would say with experience, with more games, so I think that’s the difference.
his interview is awesome, its up on united's fb page. he genuinely seems happy and excited to be back home.
ed woodward went from being considered a joke to signing mou, ibra, pogba, miki, bailly woody, he's grown before our eyes.
I'll give him his due because I never thought he would be able to pull off the Pogba deal, but let's not underestimate how much hiring Mourinho likely helped in signing all those players (espcially Ibra and Pogba). LvG to Mou is a massive upgrade.
i'm just happy this club got serious after the past 3 years. first time we broke the world transfer fee record. they certainly went into overdrive to correct the mistakes of the recent past. and it's amazing how this transfer is basically like an advertisement lol
came to post this, and to verify that we will be the swag captains of the Prem for the next 10 years.
Saw a few articles that United are expecting to make £40m in revenue in the first year from this Pogba deal.
