Been rewatching Parks and Rec and this is a frequent shot of a diner from the exterior (the interior filming location is not in ATL). I knew it looked familiar and thought it was one place in Atlanta, but its another. Who can pinpoint it first?
You win. I was wrongfully picturing this package store in L5P https://www.google.com/maps/@33.766...4!1sA64PbbC4zzYTEq82t0UHbA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
http://www.myajc.com/news/local-gov...r-braves-traffic-plan/H1IGvCD8YyRk4YXHFGRCdL/ According to the same model, 70 percent of the “background traffic”— traffic not heading to the stadium — will have subsided by 6 p.m., Lorens said. “It’s just going to look like an extension of rush hour,” he said. “We’re not putting any more cars on top of rush hour.” Apparently in some bizzaro world, rush hour ends at 6pm in Cobb County
Fucking shenanigans on that. They're ignoring interstate traffic or something to get to that number. Maybe employees in the area trying to leave, but not all traffic on 75 & 285
More renders of the new Selig proposal: Spoiler there were a couple more but not worth posting all of them. Someone also posted this showing the other properties that Selig owns. I can't wait to see what else they bring to Midtown. I'd give anything to have 1138 Peachtree, the SLS hotel, and 98 14th St. go through.
I haven't read anything about pre sale numbers, but construction fences are up for Opus Place (98 14th st). Would be the second tallest tower in Atlanta. http://atlanta.curbed.com/2016/12/13/13932636/midtown-atlanta-condo-opus-no2-construction
I lead a Christmas Bird Count group for the Atlanta Audubon Society today; we started owling at Kennesaw Mountain near the Illinois Monument at 6 then worked the surrounding areas. The weather, as shitty as it was, made for great birding. We got 57 total species with highlights include Eastern screech owl, bufflehead, winter wren, northern harrier, and Wilson's snipe. We're extremely lucky to have so many awesome natural features, places, and things at our fingertips here.
Where'd you go? I went to Island Ford then up to the dam, and the water was a bit too turbid/stained for my liking. Fished for maybe 2 hours before deciding to do something a bit warmer.
Was at Paces Mill, flow was up and turbidity very high. I tried wading to a rock in the center and mistepped. Water went down my waders on my right side and I called it a day after 3 hours. I'm going to try IF Tuesday after Christmas, have been going to Paces and a park down from Jones Bridge. What are you throwing right now?
I was throwing streamers due to the water, but nymph more often than not. I probably get more fish on midges than everything else combined.
did not realize this was a thing, but saw this Ga NPR article on it. http://news.wabe.org/post/century-old-christmas-tradition-counting-birds ATL having one Jan 2nd. Cool stuff.
my boss does it all the time in South GA/North FL. Takes about 10 days off each year to count and band.
Last year when I was on the ferry coming back from Cumberland I mentioned something about birds to one of the watchers. They come down every December to count. They talked my damn ear off about how I can get involved, the best books to buy, the best apps to use, etc. They said Kennesaw Mt is one of the best places in the state for bird watching. Compared to the ones I met you must be the youngest member by about 30 years.
I was the youngest in my group, but as a whole, it was probably a bit younger than you'd expect. Couple of early-mid 30's guys, a couple early 40's, and a couple late 50's/early 60's.
Anyone have a good oil change and car service spot around Midtown or even Buckhead? Lexus on ptree industrial told me 3 hours....after I had scheduled an appointment. Otp hell hole and waste of time driving up there.
I think I've heard something advertised on WABE about a project where they interview older people to document and commemorate their life and legacy. I googled around but didn't find anything. Does anybody know what I'm talking about?
Hiked about 6 miles along the Chattahoochee on the East Palisades Trails. Nice easy trials, good views of the river.
To echo some suggestions: My favorites are Criminal Records and Wax n Facts. Both are in Little 5 Points. Criminal is new vinyl + lots of CDs, DVDs, comic books, etc. Wax n Facts is the best used vinyl selection, IMO. As a side note, if you're a Black Crowes fan, in the late 80s Steve Gorman (their drummer) worked at Wax n Facts and a guy named Chris Robinson (lead singer) came in the store one day and said he was in a band and needed a drummer. The rest as they say is history. Also a fan of Wuxtry and Decatur CD in the Decatur area. Wuxtry is a low-key great spot. They have good selection of both new and used. Decatur CD is similar to Criminal Records, just smaller. There are quite a few popping up OTP, as well. My favorite is Metamodern Music in Woodstock. Also worth checking out: Comeback Vinyl in Alpharetta and Mojo Vinyl in Roswell. I did not know this existed. Tell me more.
On Pharr Rd I think. My wife loves vinyl and this is supposed to be the best store. A bunch of used records and I believe a massive used selection.
Awesome. I don't know how I didn't know anything about it. Looks like it's right behind Buckhead Theater/Shake Shack and all that.
A small place that most probably don't know of...Sounds Good in Marietta. It's one guy selling a personal collection in the tens of thousands...all genres. Only open on Saturdays. The guy also seemingly does it for the love of it and everything is reasonably priced. I'll go on and buy a couple albums for 8 or 12 bucks. He has boxes and boxes starting at a a couple bucks. He loves to talk about selling records for under what eBay or whatever sells them for. Way better prices than the place in Marietta Square. He is a talker though (VERY knowledgeable) so expect to spend a bit of time there. He also cleans and refurbishes record players. I bought mine from him and works great. Also has a bunch of tapes.
hope they have another anniversary show like they did in '06....edit: fuck. forgot the year's ending.
Scout in Oakhurst has been open for a week btw. Have heard great things. Website up as well http://www.scoutoakhurst.com/
