Judd Apatow's newest HBO comedy now that Girls is in its final season centered around a pretty lousy new comedian played by Pete Holmes who also is the creator and writer for the show. Cameos include the GOAT Artie Lange, underrated hottie Lauren Lapkus, T.J. Miller, etc its gotten a 94% so far on rottentomatoes which seems good I just watched the pilot and it was pretty good, definitely gonna give it a go since its HBO.
Loved the first episode and will be watching weekly The first episode was an actual experience of Pete Holmes life as well so it's basically his story
Just watched the second episode, pretty good with jt Miller. Also found out artie is in only one more episode...he makes the show. I'm sure Pete Holmes is now crashing on JT's couch next week
I generally quite like this show but the one night stand piece in the last episode was truly unbearable and made me really angry. It wasn't cringe-funny it was just an astoundingly efficient means by which to make you fucking hate Pete.
Burr ep was really up and down. They need to find a way to dial back Pete's obliviousness a bit because I can only tolerate watching him do things that even I (total industry outsider) know would get someone excommunicated in a hurry for so long
... and he's a moderately successful comedian at this point so it seems weird to think the trajectory depicted is that outlandish.
Anyway skipped a few weeks and got caught up last night. Thought the stuff with Artie was well done, and I hate how much I'm enjoying Ali. Would really have liked to see more of the Lucas Bros.
I still like it. It's sneaky decent. Never gonna be near the top tier of HBO 30 min comedies but it makes me laugh. He's so damned awkward. The new girlfriend relationship dynamic is setting up to be a total clusterfuck disaster when it ends. She's crazy.
Seems like they're moving away from focusing on the other comedians this season. Ray Romano was on camera for 3 minutes and Schumer only had a couple lines.
