Many layers to this. I'll fill in the detail when I'm not on mobile but CSX is using triangulation as their approach to negotiations with beltline and marta. It's no accident this bill came up as the beltline got $60m in TSPLOST (majority is csx owned) to close the loop and Emory is being annexed into the city (where part of the deal is Clifton light rail line adjacent to csx right of way). Craig is cool though. Good dude.
CSX going to bend us over but seems like these rail corporations are a huge pain in the ass towards societal growth
My brother is an engineer (but mostly works as a conductor due to cutbacks) with CSX and works out of Spartanburg. Each time we talk he mentions how much the various rail yards in GA and SC are scaling back and cutting, could this be a way for them to provide new business (actually running passenger trains) or are they just simply sharing their rails and getting a little profit?
Have a party of 5-6 coming into town tonight, good spot for tonight with good drinks and good food that we could linger around at for a few hours?
I'd take a look at Barcelona in Inman Park. It's a tapas place with good food and a solid bar. You're also within walking distance of another dozen or so places to grab drinks.
Not really in Inman Park. Stats downtown is solid or you could go to the Hudson Grill in midtown and be close to a bunch of others bars and clubs as well. The great food + a lot of TVs is tough. Cypress is a good call as well.
The wife and I are heading down in 2 weeks for the weekend. We're staying at the Sheraton Suites Galleria. Looking for some food suggestions. Nothing fancy, just good food in a laid back environment
http://locations.thecheesecakefactory.com/ga/atlanta-121.html Maybe the Braves stadium will be open by them
they just got Twain's chef to be theirs but guessing changes have yet to be implemented Still not a bad option for the request of place to drink, watch game, other bars close by. Probably a Beetlecat Food --> move to Hampton + Hudson for drinks is best combo.
Universal Joint, Scout, Marlay, El Myriachi, Wild Heaven are all going to be frequented by me within the next few weeks.
So that's why Twains menu changed so drastically. If he can moderately replicate the old Twains menu hell be fine.
Not sure if serious. We're not above eating at a chain, but not really what I am looking for. Good pizza, burgers, Asian, etc that aren't chains would be preferred
This is the Atlanta thread. We never miss a chance to slide in a Cheesecake Factory joke. We call him Trell. 5 rangz, yo.
Its the inside joke of this thread. Can't help myself given the "Factory" location at Cobb Galleria. IMO its worth the time to catch a ride to a place in the city. Think Canoe might be a solid, close option to where youre staying.
Oh dear God I didn't realize he linked you Cumberland Cheesecake Factory. Fran literally trying to kill our resident country club pro and his trophy wife. Cold
I'm sure we'll ride to the city either Friday night or sometime Saturday for a meal. Anything at all in the vicinity of our hotel for other meals?
So I think I have this bachelor party planned out (Reminder the groom is sober right now. We are all still drinking but trying to make it tolerable for him) Friday: Arrive early afternoon, go to Painted Pin around 4-5pm Dinner reservations at Eclipse De Luna at 7:30 Bars to follow Saturday: Cheetah Brunch when the doors open at 12 (our best way to get him in a strip club when he isn't drinking) Go to Andretti Karting for a few hours Go to Top Golf around 4pm Dinner at JCT Kitchen followed by Ormsby's Are there any other barcade/bowling whatever type of bars in the Midtown-Buckhead area I am missing?
Saw Lee Fields last night, then realized how drunk we were when we ate wings and pizza at goodfellas.
Had my gf's bday party at Twains last night, they were awesome about it. Had 4 booths down the ramp by the games, took fantastic care of us.
Can someone more knowledgable than myself educate me about this Atlanta Public School transformation to the Atlanta Independent School District and the cluster system run by for profit operators? So the superintendent did this in Austin, are they getting ahead of the voucher system to hold on to students?
Link? They went to the cluster system back in 2010 or 2011. The new superintendent has hire a year or so ago. I know she came from Austin and did well there, but haven't heard of anything you're claiming
My uber driver who is a 3rd grade teacher with APS told us Saturday night, here's what I've found so far below. Whitefoord Elementary is closing/or already has and will become a pre-school/early learning center. He also said the same company that runs Drew is going to run the Carver cluster and mentioned 2 other companies will be operating. http://www.clatl.com/news/article/13082287/atlanta-public-schools-looks-to-a-charter-system http://www.decaturish.com/2014/11/atlanta-schools-will-become-charter-system/
They closed whiteford because it was less than half full. Toomer is less than half full and Burgess Peterson has space too. So they consolidated schools. Doing so moved more pre K to whiteford and the will actually be 3 years old prek soon too. APS sighted capacity and cost savings vs anything else. I'm not sure about a Drew running Caver. Their practices, unfortunately, will not work at public schools. For example, if your kid is bad, you have to go to school with him. I can't see that rule being enforced at a regular school.
I guess they are. http://www.ajc.com/news/local-educa...urcing-public-schools/rO9MRxSQXA1h89loxMoSXL/
Yeah, that's what he said, lots of school were running under capacity. Are you zoned for Toomer? Not Drew running Carver, the company that operates Drew will operate the Carver cluster as well. He said there will be multiple different operators inside the Atlanta system. Is Drew associated with a cluster? I'm just now starting to learn about the system as I've begun exploring how annexation will affect me. Had a teacher at the GP charter school who used to teach spin at the Y tell me Saturday our annexation is definitely going through. Just glad it's happening post-reno. My initial thought is we'd be zoned for Burgess or Toomer depending on where they draw the line.
Yeah, Toomer. Originally my section of KWD was to Mary Lin, the Highlands MS and up to Grady. I lost out in the 2011 redistricting. Jesus christ that was viscous and evil. Never seen so much vitriol over where kids go to school. Candler Park and Lake Claire spoke as if us heathens south of the tracks were awful. Some message boards and Facebook groups were constant fights and insults. I just watched it all burn. They are going to eventually open some schools back up. There are so many kids on the east side. Elementary schools are mostly good. 6-12 gets dicey.
Went to Staplehouse yesterday for lunch ... holy shit that was an experience. Also just moved over by the new Braves stadium. Will be pre-game central pretty soon.
I work downtown at EY. Takes me about 20-25 minutes from desk to door in the afternoon now. I'm on the other side of 75 from the stadium, so I can take the Cumberland exit and keep right. I was commuting to the office from Acworth and it was 1.5 hours each way..so even an extra 10-20 minutes on gamedays will be a breeze.
