Peep this killer NRPS show from NYE '72 Favorite song - #13 All I Ever Wanted is the jam, IMO (Entire show is horribly mislabled) Whole show is smokin'
You guys ever branch out to some Jazz is Dead? It's all instrumental. Jimmy Herring on guitar, Jeff Sipe on drums, T Lavitz on keys, and mostly Alphonso Johnson on bass. It's all really good.
Haven't, but those dudes are all super talented. Herring is touring with John McLaughlin this fall - pretty stoked.
It's pretty hard to track down. Might be on Spotify or something similar. China Cat by them is so good
Yeeeeeesssssssss!! https://www.relix.com/news/detail/t...s_in_honor_of_40th_anniversary#When:11:00:00Z
Kinda meh imo if this is going to be this year's meet up at the movies. Will most likely attend either way.
It's already been the meetup at the movies feature. Don't get me wrong, I adore the film and have seen it more times than I can remember, but I think they've got other stuff in the vault that should be released instead.
Yeah, it was at least 5 or more years ago. Would love for them to do more with the 15th anniversary runs, and I know there's more film from Europe 72 though I don't believe they own it/have the license for it. There's some really great footage from Europe 81 as well, but same problem.
I got drunk as shit at meetup at the movies last year, hot boxed my car with a couple in their 50s at set break
Watched this the other day -> Some of the best 70's GD footage I've seen. Also, you get to see Bill Graham ranting at people for an hour and a half. Surprisingly entertaining!
I'm pretty much pot committed to phish tour this summer, only dead related act i'll be seeing is DSO at Avondale 4/8. My friends are trying to convince me to go to Dark Star Jubilee but I don't much want to camp or hang out in Ohio
Anyone have a high-quality, full-show recording of those Jerry Garcia Band shows that featured James Booker on the piano? I think they played on 1/9/76 and 1/10/76, and there may have been a few other shows. *Edit Jerry and Booker also played together on 1/7 A snippet from Youtube:
From the comment section on that video, discussing the genesis of the show: "Here is the real story: Booker was stranded in LA. Jerry heard this and suggested that they get him to SF to play some Jerry dates. Garcia was a big fan of his, and figured this would be a good way to help out a great musician who was down on his luck. Booker was brought to the bay area, but frankly had no idea who the hell Jerry was. Booker misunderstood that someone had booked some date for him and these rehearsals were for him to break in a local band to his act, not for him to learn his parts for some Jerry Garcia shows. When the rehearsals began Booker, thinking he was the band leader, took control. The entire tape is quite funny, Booker explaining to the band where he'll introduce everyone, where they can take a break, etc. Jerry, being the sensitive soul he was, didn't have the heart to tell Booker any different, and the shows went on that weekend at the Keystone clubs with Jerry basically backing Booker. Deadheads were confused, to say the least."

Stagger Lee the 1.9.76 show circulates from two different sources. I don't have a DL of it, but I think if you search hard enough you'll find it. I'll ask around, too. http://lostlivedead.blogspot.com/2012/05/january-9-10-1976-sophies-palo-alto-ca.html?m=1
It's not that bad man and legend valley is a cool place for a festival. Been to Jubilee several times and it's never disappointed.
Real upset that I'm going to be out of town that weekend..i'd be so all over that..25 dollar weekend pass..i mean gtfo of here that's a steal.
I might watch this tonight and get drunk at my house. Last night I stumbled on Festival Express and started it wayyyyyy too late to finish it. In the summer of 1970, a chartered train crossed Canada carrying some of the world's greatest rock bands. The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Band, Buddy Guy, and others lived (and partied) together for five days, stopping in major cities along the way to play live concerts. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0372279/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
that is ridiculously cheap. does anybody know anything about this festival? i guess there is no reason not to go ahead and buy tickets. any recommendations on a close hotel? i hope the motet play late night after jrad
The footage of Jerry playing Cold Jordan on the train between stops is as good as it gets. Not sure I've ever seen the film in its entirety, but I've watched that clip more times than I can remember.
I went last year. It was 25 for CRB, Grateful Grass with Keller, and some other good stuff I'm currently blanking on. Tons of food trucks lined up, a couple full bars, terrapin Hopsecutioner and Recreationale everywhere. One beer tent with some other choices. VIP definitely takes up a good portion of the best viewing areas, but for 25 I'm content to jam to the music and not care. We also smoked inside a few times, no one seemed to care as long as it wasn't super obvious I guess. As for hotels I don't know since I stayed with a friend, but there is a Candler Marta stop and it's not a far walk from there, which is what we did.
It is an absolute fucking pleasure to watch Joe Russo control the stage from his drum kit..I hope you all make it out to enjoy if you've never done so.
Going to Austin to see the brother in law in a few weeks - Bobby is playing ACL that weekend, so it looks like we'll be able to hit it up!
