This is a fantastic suggestion Hank Scorpio. One of my go to suggestions that I offer for work is Chelsea Market (like you mentioned) + The Whitney if you like that type of thing + The Standard beer garden for drinks. If you don't have a hotel picked out yet, definitely PM me.
Anybody been to Four Charles yet? I went before they opened with a friend to test some of their menu and it was insane, but haven't gone to the finished product yet. Everyone saying its incredible.
Mostly playing by ear. We did the 9/11 museum and memorial. WTC observatory. Ate at piccolo cafe, drank at the dead rabbit, and grabbed some ice cream at 10below in Chinatown. Settled back in the hotel now since we were up at 3-am today. Might go out tonight for a slice of pizza and see if it really is better up here. We're staying at Hilton Times Square so if you have any suggestions for little hole in the wall places around here, please do. Tomorrow we're doing Top of The Rock at night, doing some river cruise thing that she wants to do, but we're wide open before that.
Will look into that. Read some reviews and people seem to be all about it or hate it, which is weird. I'm almost overwhelmed with all the places to eat.
Yeah it's really tough to whittle through all the choices, the number of options is insane. But no one ever regrets heading to flavor town.
Was gonna suggest Adrienne's for lunch and Dead Rabbits forna drink if you were gonna be in Lower Manhattan. No Times Square suggestions as we tried to stay away from that area. If you're looking for something to do tomorrow night, try to make a reservation at the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village. We weren't able to make a reservation, but I think I remember they put out a standby list in the late afternoon or something.
Oh my god he was fucking with you (I hope) - don't go to that Guy Fieri hell hole. Don't go anywhere in Times Square, FWIW.
KJROD20 works right by Adrienne's so whenever they order pizza in office it's from there. I am consistently jealous.
Why am I giving him good advice instead of bad advice? Appreciate the Michael Scott gif usage though.
Ippudo is walking distance from Union Square. Tim Ho Wan is also near there--the wait will be tremendous but the food is supposed to be too. Han Dynasty is a great Chinese spot on 3rd Ave which is also near you. (I like asian food)
On the fancy end of things you could go to Gotham Bar and Grill. Step "down" from that would be ABC Kitchen and Union Fare and both are an easy walk for you.
What kind of food recs are you looking for? Quick, walk-in type places or nicer places that you'll make a reservation for? I listed some of the quick places, but let me know if you want some nicer spots. Food Thompkins square bagels Black seed bagels Alidoro (Italian sandwiches) Rubirosa (pizza - you may need a reservation here and you normally need to order by the pie, but if you go between 4-5 they have a pizza hour where you can get by the slice) Joe's Pizza Mile End Deli Veselka (good for quick breakfast) Lafayette (good for a nice brunch/breakfast - may need a res, but its a bigger place so normally easy) Mighty Quinns (BBQ) Ippudo (mentioned already, but worth saying again. Normally has long waits, but its close enough to your hotel where you could put your name down and wait there) Drinks Wayland Good Night Sonny Sake Bar Decibel (hard to find, but awesome sake dive bar - look for the "On Air" sign) Holiday Cocktail Lounge Death & Co Dear Irving
Thanks! We don't to reservation places often. Usually stick more to gastropub type places or restaurants that we know will have a short wait
Brindle Room, Grey Dog, Coopers, Boulton and Watt or the Wren (don't go here on a fri or sat night) are gastropub type places in the area, though none are worth going far out of your way for.
Hank Scorpio try Milk & Hops on 9th and Broadway. Small craft beer bar that specializes in local releases that don't have broad distribution. They usually have 12 kegs on tap, and most of them will be local stuff you've never heard of. They also have a great BLT sandwich and cheese selection.
There's a Joe's location on 14th and 3rd ave. It's a popular spot for a slice. If you wanted to sit down somewhere walking distance for a nicer pie Ribalta on 12th st is solid.
If you like seafood one of my favorite places is the Mermaid Inn. It's not super fancy or expensive, but consistently delicious food and I love the feel of the place. Not even close to your typical NY slice, but DEFINITELY go to Artichoke Pizza. It's like cheesy spinach and artichoke dip in pizza form. They also make a crab pie that is insane too. The place on 14th is basically just a walk up counter, so if you're looking for a bite late night definitely go there for a slice.
NYC, I will be in you in less than 2 weeks. :bartscottcan'twait: Staying in mid-town, main activity is taking the wife to see Anastasia for her birthday, and going to the zoo at some point. Short trip, but i'm so excited to be going back to the city.
nice! are you bringing the gator-branded dildo? TSA will totally let you bring that in your carry-on. What are you doing while in town? Besides eating at all the Asian restaurants Fancy recommended
We don't really have anything planned outside of a Greenwich Village food tour next Sunday. May try do Chelsea Market and the Highline on Saturday. Maybe try get on the list at the Comedy Cellar one night.
was talking to some friends about Gov Ball and I didn't realize how dope Friday's lineup is. Too pumped. Anyone else going?
Gonna be in NYC on Saturday-Monday. Right now, I'm thinking the plan after we get to the hotel will be to hop on the subway down to Battery Park and do the statue of liberty ferry (haven't done it in 4 previous trips), grab some food at Adrienne's after, then take the subway up to Chelsea Market/the High Line. Google tells me there's an event there on Saturday from 1:00-6:00. Sunday we're doing a food tour of Greenwich Village. No other plans besides this, and Saturdays plans are pretty fluid at this point. Anything else we should try and check out this weekend?
Any suggestions for good bars in the theater district? Plan on staying away from Times Square unless necessary. Show is at 2PM on Sunday, plan on eating at Carmine's but will want to drink before or after that.
Goo Good call! There is one on 39th, that's happening. went to the East version last time in the city, really liked it.
Take a look at Pier A Harbour house for food and drinks after the Statue of Liberty. It's an awesome scene right on the water. Also be sure to treat yourself to a comedy show at the comedy cellar. Try to buy tickets online in advance. Central Park will be delightful AF if the weathers nice.
Comedy Cellar Pro-Tip: If you are ever looking at the calendar and the set list shows a picture of an animal in place of a comedian headshot - it's usually a famous person doing a set. HTH
any of you guys ever eat Chinese in Flushing? going to Mets tomorrow and want to eat there but never been. school me.
My buddy who goes there all the time is on PTO today otherwise I'd get his scouting report. Dude lived in China for a couple years and has the Flushing move down to a science. Looking forward to your report though
Blue Smoke is good, but I'm going with Fuku fried chicken sandwich for the game, I think. Word - will report back if we make it out there. Going to eat well tomorrow.
