You know Tom Hanks, 'Forrest Gump.' Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition. That ain't retarded.
The only thing that sends a message is $$. If 10,000 people cancel and they all say it's because of that hiring, that will have an affect.
As a kid an intellectually disabled guy being sent to Vietnam didn't set off any red flags for who knows why, I was dumb. Now it's insane to think.
The insult/outrage does not involve just Elizabeth Warren, when the president speaks it reaches everyone including Native Americans who could very well take offense to it. Those type of comments should not be said by the president of United States.
I already said I don't think the POTUS should say shit like that. The tweet that I took offense to was one implying that dropping the hard ”r" is equivalent to calling a jewish person a "kike" is equal to calling a white woman "Pocahontas" if that's what you're arguing then I am at a loss for words. It's not remotely the same thing. We can think it might be offensive without the hyperbole that minimizes the impact of the other two truly fucked up words.
If she is Native American then yeah he is making fun of her heritage and not a "lie" in my eyes that would be worse. I don't think he should use it but I don't think it's the same thing. I can't understand why anyone thinks they are the same.
The Shawshank Redemption would win by a mile if that award was voted on again today. As well it should.
I guess I care about intent more than semantics, which is easy enough for me and my cracker ass to say. If someone is associated with a culture and another uses a derogatory term that's based on that culture, there's not a lot of difference in my book on the vileness. I do see your point clearer now and mostly agree.
That's sweet. You think they base the Oscars on amount of TNT reruns. Pulp Fiction would 1000% win the Oscar today.
Maybe it's just a stupid insult without meaning, but what If it cAme from Bannon? There is a "race traitor" coded language dynamic to this. (Pocohontas sold out her people to foreigner invaders). The subtext is clear to the type of people that worry about "hordes" of invading immigrants. And it lead to hot takes like: Under the heading: “Nice Job Pocahontas: Warren’s Inflammatory Tweets Contribute to Climate of Racial Violence,” writer Donn Marten suggested that the Democratic senator is an “accomplice” in the “calculated murder” of the five police officers attending the Black Lives Matter protest late Thursday night. “Democratic party nominee Hillary Clinton’s hatchet-woman Elizabeth Warren may as well be an accomplice in the now out of control outbreak of racial violence in America that resulted in the calculated murder of at least five Dallas police officers on Thursday,” he wrote. “Pocahontas sought to exploit emotions in a dangerous way in the aftermath of the unfortunate shooting of a black man by Minneapolis police.” “Looking to fan the flames of racial animosity in order to get black voters whipped up into a highly agitated state so as to gain politically, the cigar store Indian took to Twitter on Thursday to stir up anti-cop sentiment with a series of missives,” he continued. According to Marten, the media is also to blame to for not holding the Democratic Party responsible for “inciting racial violence,” while they were wasting time on presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s tweets. http://www.rawstory.com/2016/07/con...as-elizabeth-warren-for-death-of-dallas-cops/ The subtext is important. Trump supporters dismiss this language with literal interpretations, "Show me The tape where trump said Nog, you are talking about race again so maybe you are the real racist?" Like if Tomi Lahren asked if them out for a cup of coffee, "oh I'm sorry I don't drink coffee, goodbye."
There are a lot of people in the South that claim Native American blood. I've heard numerous people say it and I'm sure some of them are mistaken. It was assuredly embarrassing for Warren but I don't immediately think she had bad intentions.
Shawshank flopped at the box office. My then-girlfriend/now-wife and I saw it in an almost empty theater and it was gone out of the 16 screen multiplex in like a month. Never understood what happened to it at the box office.
They probably usually say Cherokee blood too. A lot of white people, especially in the South, claimed NA ancestry to get land designated for NAs toward the end of the 1800s. I think a lot of it is people think it makes them less boring too. Like when people named Williams, Smith, Jones, etc. claim they're mostly German or Irish, because being of British ancestry is perceived as boring for some reason.
Oh definitely some are doing it to show their "diversity". The most common time I've heard people mention it is when someone comments on that person having tanned skin or nearly black hair.
OK, but then you're hurting the actual journalists who have no control over who the Opinion board hires by putting money towards WaPo or somewhere else.
These rallies are stupid and probably do more harm than they do good. Politics in this country are some kind of fucked up.
