Absolutely adored that movie. I can't imagine a more fun movie experience. Also I want a baby groot. He's the most adorable thing I've ever seen Opening credits scene was incredible
Very happy to hear this. I was going to see it regardless but I wasn't overly enthused because frankly I was expecting some formulaic Avengers type movie.
Just you and the better half ditch whatever you're doing today, go see it, then celebrate Cinco de Mayo with margs and laugh again discussing all the funny parts.
V1 discussion, because last night's rewatch was my first in quite some time. The jail scene, when they're discussing the escape plan, and Groot just immediately steals the battery, is hilarious. You're trying to focus on a slightly blurry Groot(Gunn does this amazingly well in both of these now), while listening to the conversation of the other 3, all the while Drax is standing around in the background like the Travolta/Pulp Fiction meme, like, "why is no one paying attention to this big dumb tree?" Also, V2: Spoiler "Move, smaller, dumber tree thing" So many fantastic one liners in the second one
Don't think I've ever been filled with so much rage until the scene Spoiler where they were bullying baby groot, they got what they deserved
Do you consider V1's opening to be the scene where his mom dies, or where he's searching for the orb?
Opening scene Spoiler Before the fight starts, when Baby Groot starts randomly attacking those little monsters had me fucking rolling. So awesome. Also Spoiler I'm Mary Poppins y'all!... better be the thread title on Monday
That was great, although I was a little surprised by Spoiler the complete lack of tie in to the rest of the MCU outside of Gamora and Nebula mentioning Thanos' name a few times. Also Spoiler was Stan Lee talking with the Living Tribunal in his cameo?
Spoiler I was so captivated by that opening they could have printed the whole plot synopsis of Infinity War during the credits and I would never have noticed.
Misc thoughts Spoiler Soundtrack was just as good as the first. Cat Stevens was basically put on earth by God to make dads cry. Loved Stan Lee as a Watcher. Baby Groot was delightful. Baby Groot crying while being crushed mad me feel things as the parent of a toddler. Baby Groot being tuckered out and going to sleep on Drax made me grow ovaries. Rocket's character development was a great. Yondu also had a great arc. I think both of those things will be even more appreciated in years to come when people look back on the movie more objectively. Drax was great again but was best when doing quieter one liners. "It is beautiful...and so are you....on the inside" was perfect. Loved the shot of Ego's planet face. His character was a little thin and his master plan very generic but there wasn't a single scene that didn't hold my attention. Freaking Hasselhoff man. They took what at first was just a lesser version of the Footloose joke from the first and went to a second level with it. Really funny. I loved the scene where Yondu, Rocket and Groot are jumping over and over and their faces bug out like a Scooby Doo cartoon. Mary Poppins was the blacklight/Jackson Pollock joke of the movie. Biggest and longest laugh. I love marvels willingness to use colors in their movies, unlike DC where everything is grey and muted. Overall I think it's Civil War the way the first one was Winter Soldier. Stronger in parts but not in others and overall close enough to being "just as good" that it's not worth fighting over it.
